Helen Newberry Nurses Home Address: 555/4147 John R. & 16/100 E. Willis Built: 1898 Architect: Nettleton & Kahn John Stoughton Newberry (1826-1887) was a highly successful industrialist and politician in the state of Michigan during the mid-to-late 19th century. When Mr. Newberry died, he left his estate to Helen, his widow, and daughters to fund various institutions and facilities throughout the state. Nettleton & Kahn, now practicing as a duo after the Alexander Trowbridge departed to become the dean of architecture at his alma mater, Cornell University, was commissioned to design a dormitory for nurses attending the Grace Hospital Training School for Nurses. The 3-story structure is an example of Jacobean Revival-style architecture. The Grace Hospital Training School was among the first institutions of its kind in the United States. Old Grace Hospital was located just across the street. In 2011, the building was converted into 21st century living, offering 28 loft units. The original lead windows on the ground floor were retained, the lobby restored and many of the original bricks were refurbished and reused during reconstruction. White House Accused of Intervening to Keep Bolton’s Book From Becoming Public WASHINGTON — White House aides improperly intervened to falsely assert that a manuscript by the former national security adviser John R. Bolton contained classified information in an attempt to prevent its contents from becoming public, a lawyer for the career official overseeing the book’s prepublication review said in a letter filed in court on Wednesday.At one point, the aides halted a request from Mr. Bolton to review his account of President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine so he could release that section of the memoir during the impeachment trial, according to the lengthy account of the White House review written by Kenneth L.
