Jacob and Augustine - Why did we agree to host the dinner? Can we even cook?
Augustine eyed the list of things that had to be made for dinner with a level of uneasiness. While she had no problem with cooking for the most part, many of these had instructions that went onto two pages, and not to mention the oven still was iffy with working properly and not just bothering to burn all the food.
“Jacob?” She turned to where he was playing with Sadie on the couch. “Why did we agree to this?”
He blinked at her, holding Sadie’s hands as he bounced her gently on his knee, getting giggles from his little girl. “Because we have the bigger dining room?”
“C’mon seriously,” she huffed, coming over and flopping dramatically back onto the couch, laying her head on his lap, where Sadie made a noise to grab her mothers hair. “Half this stuff we’re making here I didn’t even realize could be food. Why did we agree to host dinner? Can we even cook?”
Chuckling Jacob would shift, placing Sadie gently on her mother’s stomach where she nestled down. “I’m pretty sure we can cook, unless you’ve been lying to me about enjoying my cooking and I’ve been lying about enjoying yours.”
“Cooking that requires art at least.”
“What, are we going to paint with the mashed potatoes once we’re done?” He raised an eyebrow, moving them so she was wrapped in his arms, with Sadie making noises at being moved all around with them. “It’ll be fine. With the two of us we can do it.”
“Mm,” she relaxed against him, thinking. “We really need to fix the oven.”
“That’ll happen one day I just don’t know when.”
She laughed a bit, leaning up to peck his lips. “We should’ve roped your sister into helping us at least, it’s a lot of work to do on our own.”
“Mm true. Maybe we can see if she’ll pick up Sadie so we don’t have to watch her and cook,” he pondered before grinning at her. “And so we can do a few fun things while water is boiling you know…”
Smacking his arm with a smirk Augustine stood back up, holding Sadie in her arms. “Frisky ducky.”
“Maybe I am! I get what I can get with that little one around,” he pointed accusingly at Sadie, then waved to her which got her enthusiastically waving back to her dad.
“I think we do pretty good for having her around. Oh and by the way, I ordered you something special for Christmas that you’ll enjoy.”
“Is it white?”
“Of course.”
“I’m curious already.”
