And then there are the groupies who don't want to be screwed. Carrie and Jackie (pictured on the opening page), two young and extremely devoted Fabulous and Manics fans, are clearly not out for a fuck-me-now-fuck-off option. They simply look to their favourite groups for inspiration and excitement. "They do and say everything we want to ourselves." They go to every gig, run fan clubs, nurse small fantasies about band members, but a single night of torrid passion with one of their idols is not what they're after. They just want to feel included.
Simon Dudfield, singer with Fabulous and self-styled bisexual love machine-with-attitude, is happy to have them around.
"They look brilliant", he enthuses, "But it makes no difference to us if girls tell us we're fantastic, we all think we are already. We treat everyone with the same amount of respect. It's equally as nice to have 16-year-old girls coming backstage and telling you you're great as it to have Miles Hunt back there, they'll be treated alike by us."
