I can’t even imagine the amount of work, or the love and dedication that goes into it, but I wanted you to know it’s appreciated. I had actual heart eyes when I saw the proto of the lil guy and have enjoyed every update about lil llama’s process into production
Thank you! Each sculpture is really a labor of love and obsession. This sanding/priming will easily be an 8 hour day of work today and I’ll probably only be half done if all goes well! But I’m so happy to be able to sculpt and have the support from all of you lovelies to at least be able to pay for material and some labor! You are all wonderful!
This includes lovely replies or tags that you may not see me replying to. I try not to text spam too often or some days don’t have the energy but be assured comments, tags, reblogs, and likes bring me so much happiness and helps keep me going in the bad and slow days!

Even though I see the name “Sephora” in there, I’m claiming zero responsibility, FYI. :)
Lol, you might not be claiming it but I’m assigning at least...30% of the responsibility to you. But I ain’t mad about it :p And thank you and @shespeakslatin, @librarian-amy, @anachronistique and @semperreadem for the scent-sational advice!
The one thing I definitely don’t want to do is announce my presence with perfume before and after I’ve left a room. I might not have taken that into account when sampling scents.
I 100% got a sample of Commodity perfume in the Book scent, simply for the name.
But I’m super excited about the Pinrose sampler because I super loved the smell of their Lil’ Dipper and Wild Child scents.
Next on my list: Tocca’s Meet the Girls collection. Honestly, I cannot afford to have perfume become like my new lipstick obsession.

Nerd wallet always has great (and neutral) reviews of the most beneficial financial accounts for a consumer. It’s how I picked a savings account. Also, they have a lot of articles that help break it down so I know that I feel at least a little more informed and not like I’m completely fail!adult (which happens a lot)
So much helpful adulting advice!!! Thank you for the Nerd Wallet rec. It’s probs time to take control of my financial life, and not just use the bank I use because it’s always been the bank I’ve used, and being informed is super important.

I've tried Bumble, but I'm the worst at messaging first and I don't know what to say :( Any advice?
Hello, everyone (almost 195 now)! Welcome to another edition of our Author Spotlight feature. If you would like to learn more about one of your fave Wintershock or OT3 writers who has not yet been featured, drop the blog a line, and either dixiedolittle and I will reach out to them. Feel free to volunteer if you'd like to do so. Our only "requirement" is to have written at least 2 fics featuring Bucky x Darcy so you can answer the slightly evil question about which fic of yours is your favorite. ;D
Now, without further ado, this week's author is... Jadecharmer: AO3
Jadecharmer's Wintershock fic is one of the first that I read for this pairing and what helped to draw me in to the awesomeness. "Get Me Through Another Restless Night" and "The Worst Loneliness" quickly became favorites, the first hot and relatively light on the angst while the second features Darcy helping Bucky cope with his many issues in a surprisingly tender series of interactions between the two.
Without further ado, here's a list of her Wintershock/OT3 fic followed by her interview:
Get Me Through Another Restless Night
It’s been such a long time since she’s done the one-night stand thing, and to be honest, she had thought she was past that period in her life, but this guy is making her seriously second-guess that resolution.
In which Darcy goes for some much needed after work therapeutic release (read: alcohol), meets a man she later finds out is a former Russian assassin, and finds there's the potential for much more than she expected.
I Have Seen Castles, Broken and Crumbling
After her somewhat life-changing encounter with a Norse God in the desert, Darcy ends up at the forefront of the Battle of New York fighting jet-ski riding aliens, along with the X-Men and some group that nobody knows anything about. Of course, her absolute crap luck of finding herself in messed up situations, this one of her own making with a little help from the tesseract, comes through and crash lands her in 1942 version of New York.
With little other choice, Darcy puts her skills to use and finds herself as a pilot for the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), transporting planes and soldiers, including one Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes. And, as she soon learns, where James Barnes is, trouble soon follows in the form of Captain Rogers and the Howling Commandos.
Oil Stained Stars
When she opens the door, the Wonder Woman nightlight gives her enough light to see Bucky’s form curled up in the corner of their daughter’s bed against the wall, one of his arms curled up and behind his head. Their daughter is tucked into the nook of his shoulder, her tiny arms not even able to wrap halfway around his broad chest, but trying nonetheless.
Slaves to Any Semblance of Touch
"Bucky!” Darcy curses, fumbling to cover herself, even though the damage is done. Course, she manages to knock the dish towel on the counter down to the floor because she’s flustered and Darcy’s already a complete klutz even when she isn’t flustered. She’s left ducking down, mostly naked, behind the island counter, peering over the top.
Take Me as I Am series
What catches Bucky's eye, though, as he scrolls through while waiting for Steve, is a tweet with his Winter Soldier tag, Steve’s Cap tag, and Thor’s tag.
Try to keep it on the lower end nxt time. My commute was disgusting, but the view was fantastic.
The Worst Loneliness
“’s not my first bottle. Besides,” he continues, his voice rough, “I’m not Steve.”
There’s so much in his tone. So much conveyed in those few words that, even someone who doesn’t know him, someone who’s only heard rumors and gossip, can put together the pieces. He isn’t Steve. He wasn’t frozen for seventy years, only to be thawed out, pristine and clean. He’s been used and he’s been the one who has done the using.
Bucky’s tainted and dented and tarnished.
01. What about Wintershock as a pairing appeals to you?
Both characters are such strong characters on their own merit, for admittedly different reasons that, at the root, are actually very similar. While not much is known of the canon origins for Darcy, or even much about her life up until the point of interning with Jane, she's a character with such a strong personality on screen. Personally, for me, I view Darcy as a character with intelligence and insight, though sometimes her personality can get a bit sharp and, as a result, can sometimes overshadow those attributes. However, I think, if anything, that adds to her as a character because it's a very human flaw. It's part of what makes her interesting and fun, both to explore in terms of personality in theory and to write.
Bucky, well, Bucky has always been a favorite for me. Even before the first Captain America movie, I liked his character in the comics. He's a great foil for Steve, not just as the Winter Soldier but also as Bucky Barnes, childhood friend, Sergeant, Howling Commando.
At the heart of their characters, of the pairing, Darcy and Bucky are two people just trying to make their way through life, through the various hands they have been dealt. Post-Winter Soldier Bucky as a real person with autonomy and dealing with a lot of heavy issues regarding his past and what's been done to him. What he's done to others. He's the character we're fascinated by because of the sheer amount of trauma he's undergone, but still keeps going. He's the underdog we root for and the fighter we strive to be; while we, as readers and as writers, have absolutely no basis in the sort of life experience he's gained, we can distill our own feelings of displacement (sourced from any number of reasons, big or small) in our own lives on a lesser level into something similar, or at least relateable to a point of understanding and kinship.
Meanwhile, Darcy is the every person; she's fresh from college, trying to find her place in the world while still coming into her own. Much like Bucky, she's on a path of self-discovery, though this one is much more personal and relatable to the reader as it is the standard(ish; Darcy still does live in a world with alien invasions) modern journey every twenty-something endures. Darcy is, for all intents and purposes, part of the graduating college class coming into the world with massive amounts of debt and no job prospects. She's the sarcastic, if slightly pessimistic, world view brought up on John Stewart and a financial crisis that's going to be biting at her heels.
I've read a lot of stories, not just Darcy/Bucky, where Darcy works with Jane post-college. I can see this being a logical step, to some degree, were Jane to make the offer. From Darcy's perspective, it's a job. And maybe she likes the excitement it brings, even if this isn't what she thought she would ever end up doing for a job. But, possibly, she also doesn't have any other job offers other than the Starbucks on the corner. Maybe she put out applications and resumes and didn't hear back after an initial interview or two. But Darcy is one of those who seems to make the best of her circumstances and keeps pushing forward. No, she didn't think she would be chasing stars in a beat up van with a college degree better used as a place mat. But would she change it? Nope, because this is where she needs to be.
Darcy and Bucky are both, in my opinion, more of the reactive than the proactive type when it comes to events and planning. In the comics, a Bucky plan basically consists of handing out guns to teammates (because everyone should have a gun, according to him) then bursting in on the bad guys. Sometimes falling off buildings. Meanwhile, Darcy is viewed in Thor 2 as the one holding everything together when Jane is away. She's reacting to the situation, gathering resources, like Selvig, after said resource is seen running naked around the countryside.
That isn't to say this is a bad trait because they're both competent and strong individuals. Plus, there are times they can both take a proactive stance, coming up with plans and seeing little details and information that others might have missed (Darcy in Thor 1 with the anomaly in the data denoting Thor's arrival, for example).
Either way, I think the way the both respond to situations, instead of clashing, would mesh well. Darcy excels well in a support role and working behind the scenes. Bucky, during his time as Steve's sergeant in the war, would have had to use the same tactics to outfit the Commandos and to help prep for missions. In his role as Winter Soldier and later as Captain America, he takes the front command, but I think a part of him would always be concerned with logistics, which is where Darcy would come into play. Once she gets a system down, she can tweak it to perfection, then completely roll and own it. Something that Bucky would need, especially since his plans aren't always well thought out (see a Bucky Plan) and, as a result, would need a support team able to respond quickly and efficiently.
Of course, that's all in a professional atmosphere. What I like, though, is taking these personalities, these two individuals that are dynamic in their own ways, while still similar in other aspects, and seeing what happens. How are they going to meet this time? How is it going to play out? Who is going to flirt with whom? Who is going to pull the other one's ass out of the fire? Who's going to initiate the first kiss? Who's going to grab the other one's hand at the end of the first date on the walk home, lacing their fingers together because they just need to be able to touch this person, to share this connection that's playing havoc on their heart?
This is why I love Darcy and Bucky.
02. How did you first encounter it?
Initially, I read Darcy and Bucky separately, actually. I read the few Bucky/Natasha stories I could find and for Darcy, I checked out a lot of Darcy/Steve and Darcy/Bruce. For me, it was more about finding a good story and a good characterization at that point.
I did check out the Darcy/Bucky tag, on a whim, but, at the time, there were about twenty stories in total for the pairing; a third of them were actually Darcy/Steve, with Bucky as a past bad relationship, a third were Darcy/Steve/Bucky, and for the last third, most of them were less than 1,000 words, which, while good, isn't enough to fill the craving sometimes.
Still, I read every single one of them. Some resonated more with me than others, but, overall, I was left wanting more, like there was so much potential in this pairing and I hadn't found something that clicked. I wasn't on tumblr at the time, but had seen a link in one of the author's notes, on a Darcy/Steve story, I believe, so I checked it out (famous last words, of course). Through a lot of link hopping and searching, I came across the-yellow-ranger's (aka, nessismore) Naked Neighbors series. I loved it and came away craving more.
It wasn't until Polexia_Aphrodite started posting "In the Blue Dark" that everything clicked. I was blown away. From the first chapter, I thought, yes, this, this is what Darcy and Bucky could be, this is all the potential for this pairing, bottled up and waiting to explode.
03. Do you have any specific Wintershock headcanons? Are there any particular fic tropes you like concerning the pairing?
I already went a lot, probably too much, into at least headcanon characterization for both characters on the first question, so I'm going to leave off on that.
As for tropes, I don't think it's necessarily a trope, but I like a competent Darcy. I think she has a rather dry humor and that's often overlooked for the appeal/desire to have a sassy personality, tossing off one-liners and putting people in their place. I'm not quite sure where that characterization came from, but I know I've seen it a lot in fic. My preference, my weakness, is always going to be the dry personality, which is definitely hard to write so when I see it well done, I'm on cloud nine. Especially since I think like calls to like in that manner because Bucky has that sort of dry wit, too, as we've seen in the films when dealing with a certain little sass named Steve.
I also like the mutual respect thing, where they can take care of the other, but it doesn't overstep boundaries or make the other person seem weak or undermine their abilities or their personhood. I think there's a good dynamic at play here, with Darcy having been underestimated a lot, given small things that are said either to her or about her in the movies, despite her ability to prove, time and time again, her resilience and intelligence under unusual circumstances. And Bucky, well, he's definitely handled with a certain amount of caution, I'm sure, post-Winter Soldier where there's going to be an adjustment period by everyone to view him not as a weapon/victim, but as a person.
04. I make a lot of soundtracks to play when I’m writing fic. Do you associate any particular song with Wintershock? If so, which one?
I used to be pretty good about having a soundtrack set up for certain scenes, like one for a more intense emotional scene or one for an action scene, but I've gotten pretty terrible about putting them together. Most of the time, I'll have a song that comes up on a Pandora station that'll click for me for some scene and I'll pull that up on YouTube when I go to write, just replaying it over and over. Otherwise, my default for writing music is to, again, either revert to Pandora or Spotify on one of the stations I have set up.
As for songs that I can associate with the pairing, "Demons" by The National is such a Bucky song for me. Actually, anything by The National works for this pairing when you want that heart-wrenching emotional breakdown feeling. Also, so many songs from The Nashville soundtrack; judge me if you want on my melodramatic tv show choices, but it's just so good.
Here are a few others that really work for me: Everlasting Light by The Black Keys, Casual Affair by Panic at the Disco, Waiting Game by Banks, Future Starts Slow by The Kills, If I Didn't Know Better by Nashville Cast, and I Need My Girl by The National.
Can't Get It Right by Nashville Cast (listened to this over and over while writing "Get Me Through Another Restless Night," which is a lyric from the song and the inspiration for the fic)
A Storm Is Going to Come by Piers Faccini (in my mind, this is kind of like the scene before the moment of reckoning, the resolve that comes after the low, right before the Bucky goes on a rampage)
05. Of the stories that you’ve written concerning them, which one is your favorite and why?
"I Have Seen Castles, Broken and Crumbling" is probably always going to be my favorite. It was the first story I wrote with this pairing, well, am still writing, I suppose would be the more accurate way to state this status. It's one of the first stories that I actually have an extensive outline, though that's constantly being revised as I continue through the story, but it's one of the first that makes me feel like I have control over the story rather than just fudging my way through. It's also the most extensive story I've attempted, both in terms of the length and the number of plot lines and interactions. It's been a great challenge for me as a writer for a number of reasons; to make sure I'm doing justice to all the characters, to keep the story clean where everything makes sense to the reader, but it's still engaging without giving away too much, and to make the story interesting.
I also have a big soft spot for "The Worst Loneliness." While definitely more on the friendship, or potential friendship, side of things rather than the romantic relationship side of things, I really love the dynamic that was brought forth in that story. I love strong but still vulnerable Bucky and I have such a weakness for a Darcy that can be insightful, but still a little sarcastic. Plus, it was a challenge to try and write something that conveyed a lot of emotion by relying more on actions than on dialogue.
06. What Wintershock fic by someone else would you recommend to others to read? What about this fic appeals to you?
The Neighbors Are Naked by the-yellow-ranger aka nessismore
Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV | Part V | Part VI | Part VII |
What appeals most to me about this fic is the interaction; they're so great together, letting each other in slowly, challenging each other, while still holding back. You know there's so much going on under the surface, even if you don't know what it is, which is exactly like the real world. You don't get to know everything and the author does a wonderful job balancing exactly how the progression of a relationship finds it's way through these discoveries. Plus, the banter is absolutely wonderful and there's a guest appearance of sassy lil shit Steve, which is always a nice bonus.

easy ready willing overtime by lanyon
Because taking-none-of-your-shit while still remaining cool, calm, and collected Darcy is my favorite sort of Darcy.
07. What kind of Wintershock story would you love to read that hasn't been written yet by you or others?
Modern AUs. I'm such a sucker for a good modern AU and, in my opinion, there are never enough.
Like, let's see, ok, how about grizzled war vet Bucky, going to college now that he's back on U.S. soil, bitter and jaded and disillusioned by what he's done and what he's seen during his tours. Got out when a bomb took out half his squad, with the rest coming back in pieces. Both in body and soul.
Darcy Lewis, who had to put off going to school because there just wasn't the money for it, no matter how much her parents scrimped and saved and how much Darcy worked her ass off at the local bakery/coffee shop/bookstore/convenience store since before it was even legal for her to take a job.
Both of them are products of a dark America, the forgotten and ignored underbelly of America, both of them disillusioned but still keeping their heads down and daring anyone to fuck with them.
'Course, they meet their first day in school, in an Intro to Poli Sci class that fulfills two prereqs for Bucky and is something of a potential interest for Darcy. What catches her attention, though, is the snort of disbelief from the guy with his long hair pulled back in a bun when the class gets off track talking current events and that brings up a discussion on the ethics of war. Her eyes dart from the challenging look on his face to the way his body is slumped, attempting to hide the fact that he only has one arm crossing his chest and failing. Instead of sympathy, though, which she's pretty sure this guy would meet with venom and ridicule and throw that right back in her face, not that she wouldn't do the exact damn same, there's a flooding of understanding and a feeling of kinship.
Within the week, they're partners on a project. They're the only two in the class in their mid-twenties and Darcy doesn't even have to words for how grateful she is that she's not gonna have to work with the 18 year old who might as well be a bubblegum pop pixie princess in her spare time or the 19 year old frat boy who starts and ends every sentence with 'duuuuuude.'
Course, that project is only the beginning for those two. Late study nights, pints of beer at a dive bar on the weekend, far from campus and all the hipster bullshit and kids who can't handle a single shot of tequila, let alone the ten they insist on drinking. Darcy crashing at Bucky's off-campus apartment because she might have saved enough, and sold her soul for a loan or two, to pay tuition, but not enough to afford to pass up on-campus housing as part of her package.
And, clearly, I could go on forever. Personally, I could read about a billion modern AUs for this pairing and still want more.
Hey, so I think I misread your prompt meme and gave you two prompts. I was not trying to be greedy! If you're willing, please do whichever is better for you and disregard the other :)
Welllllll, yes, you did, but here's the funniest part: you asked for prompts #8 and #18, dopemixtape asked for #18, and jadecharmer asked for #8. And all with Steve/Darcy.
So guess who combined all of the prompts into one fic? :D
I hope all three of you enjoy this!

“I’ll be right over.”
Steve hits the disconnect button on the phone and places it carefully down on the coffee table. It’s well into night time by now, the streets emptier and the subways full of the late crowd heading to wherever they go. It won’t take Darcy long to get to his place, he thinks, even though he knows he’ll be worrying about her well-being until she’s there. She doesn’t have a shield to protect her.
When it’s late no one notices her sneaking out, either.
It’s not long before there’s a quiet knock at his door, and Steve opens it up to see Darcy standing there, looking slightly windblown from the cold winter night and a large duffel bag slung over her shoulder. “You came prepared,” Steve says, moving back to let her inside.
“When am I not?” Darcy says, grinning at him.
“You ready to go?”
“Just gotta get done up,” she nods, hoisting the bag up once more.
Darcy follows Steve down the hallway, detouring into the bathroom while he goes into the guest bedroom to check the set up. In here the lights are blazing, a few different stands set up to mimic the look of proper daylight. There’s a chaise lounger in there that he’d found in an antique shop, worn brocade faded to muted browns and golds over time. He adjusts the lights a touch, then goes over to make sure his easel’s the perfect position from the chaise and that all of his pencils and charcoals are laid out.
All of these preparations only take a few minutes, however, which leaves Steve pacing around the small studio space in circles. He shouldn’t be nervous, not at all. Darcy’s posed for him numerous times by now, in various states of dress, but he finds that he’s always twitchy until the pencil’s in his hand.
It’s not like they’re doing anything illegal, after all.
Finally Darcy comes back into the room, a loose robe belted around her waist and a long, dark wig falling over her shoulders all the way past her waist. “That new?” Steve asks as she heads over to the chaise.
“Yeah.” She looks over at him, playing with the ends of the wig. “You mentioned the words ‘Lady Godiva’ when we talked about this session; I figured I’d help it along a bit.” Darcy takes a deep breath, then shucks off the robe, draping it over the back of the chaise. It adds a nice riot of color to the overall picture, Steve thinks, deep blacks and vibrant pinks that Darcy’s fair skin will look luminous against.
Darcy stretches out on the chaise, head propped up on the single scrolled arm. Steve moves over to adjust the trailing tendrils of the wig, strategically hiding certain bits of skin and revealing others that will look best from the side profile he’s envisioning. “Are you comfortable?” She nods once, her eyes closing and a peaceful look taking over her face. Steve carefully brushes a few strands out of her face, making her eyes flutter and gaze up at him warmly. He swallows roughly, a small shiver making its way down his spine.
Their relationship isn’t like that, it’s about the art only. At least, that’s what he tells himself. He can’t help but wonder if Darcy has to remind herself of that too during times like this when they’re close enough to breathe the same air and the tension’s wound tighter than a guitar string.
“All right, let me know if you need a break.”
“You got it,” Darcy says softly, her eyes closing once more.
Steve checks the lighting once more, then retreats to his easel. He selects a pencil from the mix, makes sure it’s sharp, and begins to sketch.
----------
The sun’s nearly up by the time Steve’s finished with the drawing, the dark graphite and charcoal figured scattered with hints of color from a set of watercolor pencils that were a gift from Sam the Christmas before. Luckily it’s a Saturday, so Darcy won’t have to rush home to get ready for work once they clean up. He doesn’t have to worry about that as much anymore, now that SHIELD’s collapsed into a flaming pile of rubble. He groans softly, rolling his neck and wincing when he hears the crack of his joints.
“Mmm, we good?” Darcy asks, stretching out on the chaise. Steve’s fairly sure she’d actually fallen asleep there in the middle of posing. The entire time she’d stayed as still as a statue, however, with skin like warm marble and the only indication that she hadn’t been carved out from stone the small movements of her breathing.
“Yeah.” Steve sits back in his chair, looking at the new sketch with a critical eye. “I think this is one of the best ones yet,” he says softly.
He hears more than sees Darcy stand up, her soft footsteps padding across the floor. When she comes around to the other side of the easel the robe’s back on and the wig left behind, her natural hair crinkled and wavy from being pinned up all night. She pauses next to his chair, taking in the sight before her. “Wow,” she breathes.
Steve reaches out and takes her hand in his, pulling Darcy closer until she perches on his lap. The platonic cuddling is another part of the process, a bit of intimacy that helps them come back to the real world after getting lost inside of the art. He’s never had to do this with any of the people he’s drawn in the past, but then he’s never had a model quite like Darcy either.
“Good wow or bad wow?” he asks.
“Good wow.” She tilts back until she’s resting against his chest, her head leaning against his.
They’re quiet for a few moments, just gazing at the latest piece of art in a room that’s brighter than daylight. But then Steve feels Darcy shift slightly on his lap, taking in a breath that expands her ribcage against his chest. “Do you ever think we should just stop this?” she says carefully, quietly.
“Stop what?” Steve asks, before he can allow his suddenly pounding heart to jump to any unnecessary conclusions.
Darcy twists her head to look at Steve, her eyes widening. “Stop the...I don’t know. The pretending? The dance that we both know is happening and yet we’re totally ignoring the steps?”
Steve’s brow wrinkles, and he frowns, just slightly. “I’m not sure what you mean.”
She shakes her head and her mouth opens, like she’s getting ready to say something, but then she snaps it shut. Instead, Darcy surprises him by leaning in and pressing her lips to his in a soft, lingering kiss. ‘Oh, that dance,’ Steve thinks, just before his eyes fall shut and his hand lands on her side to keep her close.
The kiss is gentle and quiet, never going deeper than the lips, but there’s no need to push it. There’ll be time for that later. But it’s so much easier to let this one simple action speak more than words could right then. When they pull apart, Steve watches as Darcy’s eyes open slowly, with the same haziness that he’d seen earlier on the chaise.
Suddenly, the look makes sense.
“No more pretending,” Steve agrees, before kissing her once more.
jadecharmer replied to your post: “Let’s just call that attempt at mindfulness body scan meditation a…”:
I usually find that if I’m feeling twitchy or antsy, making myself settle only exacerbates the situation. Instead, doing something active helps. Go for a walk or you mentioned the squat exercises you started doing; that could be a good alternative.
kittywings01 said: Some days it’s just a lost cause. Don’t get too down on yourself, as hard as it is. Maybe tomorrow will go better. *hugs*
I’m supposed to do the body scan exercise six times before Thursday’s mindfulness class. I thought I was pretty calm as I’d been sketching, and that or crafting has a really big calming effect on me most of the time. The more I tried to listen to the track and be still the more tense and twitchy I got.
I'm doing a 28 day squats challenge, still doing it, though I feel behind a day. Hit a low patch last week and had to choose between the squats or making dinner for everyone as all my energy was gone. I am proud of myself for exercising for the first time in years besides walking (which I am doing more of).
It's just a little disheartening to not be able to do my homework I suppose.
