Harumi and Gene were originally arranged to be married, the former Emperor of Ninjago had wanted to release Master Chen thinking he was reformed. As a reward he swore a future daughter to Chens only son Gene in marriage to solidify the bond.
Gene was the one to discover the old contract when he gained his inheritance at 16,
He also inherited the entirety of the Chen Mafia an ailing group that had run the criminal enterprise under his former father's leadership. He decided to fully jump into the role of Head of the Family Mafia, restoring it with several years of hardwork and illegal activities.
Gene waited to reveal the marriage contract until they both were of Age. Harumi at first was not thrilled at all to learn of her adoptive fathers decisions.
Lloyd although encouraged her to step out, she was the first to ask for a proper arrangement and that she would require at least 3 dates before she would decide if she was going to accept this arrangement. This actually follows the Ninjago Royal Families Protocol to avoid unhappy marriages and thus wobbly bonds.
Ninjago itself was and still is abuzz about this powerhouse of a Duo, Harumi and Gene balance each other. Everyone could see it from the beginning.
Harumi and Gene only needed 2 dates before they realized how perfectly matched they were. She had walked in on him talking with a General on a shipment of Black Market goods, she instantly slipped back into her old role and assisted him even offering up the aid of her old group if he needed it.
As was again tradition, Harumi sent a letter to Gene saying she accepted the terms of Marriage set forth by their parents.

Gene found it humorous that Harumi had had a child with his former rival. But did not mind, he even invited her onto his lap to watch him work as the small child showed interest.
Gene's Nickname for Morana is Little Luna Moth or small demon child
As this was an order by the old Emperor it was the last thing done on record for the Royal Family in its History, the departure of the Jade Princess mimicked previous leaving of princesses of the Ninjago Royal Lineage in the past
Per the Emperor he had set aside close to 5 million in Funds, fabrics jewels and jewelry that had historically also belonged to Empresses and Princesses of long past. This was also Harumis Inheritance by Law so nobody could dispute it
Gene even sent his highest Mafia members to escort her from the Old Palace to the Family Home on the Island as again was traditional. To symbolize the Grooms families wishes and highest honors to have this woman added to their family.
The Chen Family is counted as one of the old Noble families of Ninjago. If Ninjago wanted to ever reestablish the Dynasty they technically could do so through this Line.
