Scorpio Moon #2 is my second perzine. Written in early 2016, it includes thoughts on my recent house move, a requiem for my life in London, and a love letter to my new city, Brighton. There's also stuff about a holiday to Berlin that I took at the end of 2015, and writings about dealing with Christmas and failing to live up to yr cishet family's expectations. Content note: this zine discusses anxiety, depression, and conservative economic policies. It also makes reference to abusive relationships, transmisogyny, police brutality, alcohol use, state racism and sex. There are swear words too.
(re)bound(ary) - a zine about processing and relationships by Jade Mars. This zine was created during spring 2016 and is a collection of affirmations, boundaries, and reminders to myself. It was written as a way to process the past couple of years of my life and as a means to think about my past, current and new relationships; I hope that it can be useful to other people as a springboard for thinking about one's own boundaries, needs and desires.
A zine about being sexually dysfunctional whilst participating in sex-positive queer spaces. Written by four queers, this zine discusses feeling excluded from sex-positive spaces, the limits of consent, not feeling queer 'enough', bad sex and sad sex. Some things about us (from the introduction): We are a group of four white queers, and - despite differing gender identities - were all assigned female at birth and are now usually read as women. We are all currently physically non-disabled, in our 20s, south London-based, attracted to people of various genders, have had shitty abusive relationships (mostly but not exclusively with men), are currently suffering or have previously suffered from various mental health problems, love cats. Content note: these pieces include subjects such as rape, sexual assault and coercion, abusive relationships, self-harm, anxiety and depression. The writing also reflects cisnormativity and internalised homophobia and misogyny.
My Top 5 Fish Suppers was inspired by a call-out I made earlier in 2016 - I asked friends to suggest topics for zines for me, and this was the result! The zine is a record of my favourite fish or seafood meals that I have ever eaten, from moules-frites (mussels and chips) in the south of France to prawn tempura in Tokyo. It's also quite possibly my most middle-class zine yet!
Work Yr Worth is a mini zine that I made in summer 2016 whilst doing Chani Nicholas' astrology course on Mars retrograde (www.chaninicholas.com). In the birth chart, Mars represents your passion, drive, and potential for conflict. My Mars is in the second house, the house of possessions, money, self-worth and self-esteem. This mini zine is a meditation upon what this means for me: my relationship with money (especially whilst being broke under capitalism) and how I value myself and my work. It's about desire for financial stability and a request to the universe for help with this.
'My Own Biggest Fan: more thoughts on self-care for rad, mad, sad babes' is a mini-zine that I made in September 2015. It expands upon the ideas I wrote about in 'Self-Care in the Slough' and talks about further strategies I have implemented in my life, including magic, tattooing, painting yr nails and other femme technologies.
