44. Flowers of Romance

48. Fake Dating

Jade and Equius work for/own businesses in the same district (Jade owns a flower shop and Equius works for the family auto parts store). Equius’s extended family will be in town for a couple weeks for a big family event and have been nagging him to find someone, and Jade has to go to a wedding and her usual fake date had to bail on her.

At some point Jade has to take her car in to get fixed and she ends up spilling about her problem, leading to Equius talking about his and they end up with a plan. They agree to fake date each other to go to their events (and Equius agrees to fix Jade’s car for free since her thing is only one day whereas they’ll need to pretend for him for a couple weeks), and Equius introduces her to his family as his girlfriend. They think that’ll be the end of that only Equius’s nosy-ass family keep having lunches and dinners and telling him to invite his girlfriend and so they have to learn a lot about each other really fast so the whole ruse doesn’t stink to high heaven of falseness. And his family keeps telling him to get her gifts and such so he keeps extensively looking up really nice gifts to get for her based on the interests she told him. And Jade thinks it’s super sweet plus is kinda guilty he keeps spending money on her so she starts bringing him flowers every day for the time his family is in town.

Then eventually they get to know each other pretty well and Jade starts thinking the weird muscle dude is actually pretty nice and Equius appreciates the thought and taste that she puts into her flowers + starts to notice things about her outside their fake accompaniments for her family meal invites.

Lots of stuff happens until eventually the night of the wedding rolls around and they attend for Jade’s friend as planned. Only at the end of the night when they’re both dancing, they do a goofy double-ask-out and agree that maybe they can start dating for real. And Jade still keeps giving him flowers to put out front in the auto shop after that.
