“Good job today, Jean. That guy really put us on quite the chase, but that didn’t stop you. I thought for sure we were gonna lose him.”
“Lose a perp? Hah. Since when have I let that happen, Marco? No asshole is gonna get past me.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you say. There’s no denying you’re good at what you do though; I’m glad you’re my partner.”
“Yeah, me too. Have a good night now, got it? Tell Mina I said hi.”
“You too, Jean, and I will. see you tomorrow, bright and early.”
A beep ends the conversation as he presses the hang-up button, and Jean turns left into the driveway of his house. God, the exhaustion from chasing that robber for a while caught up to him for sure…he didn’t know when to quit until his body hit the pavement, did he? Sure, Jean’s body is in shape, but sprinting on a high speed chase down the strip mall back into some hidden suburb behind it uses up his store of energy. That only happened after stopping another guy earlier in his shift who decided it’d be a good idea to try and speed away from him after refusing to be pulled over for speeding. Exhausted enough to not even bother parking in his garage, Jean opens his car door, grabs his bag and his phone, and meanders his way onto the concrete pathway and up the few steps that lead to his porch. A shower and crawling right into bed sounds great….especially with being put on duty at seven thirty the next morning.
However, those thoughts dissipate temporarily as his favorite girl in the universe greets him.
“Heya, Daisy! How’s my baby doing, huh?”
Bounding over to him excitedly, a happy bark resonating throughout the foyer, a German Shepherd puppy almost jumps into his arms as he crouches down to pet her ebony and golden fur. Of course Jean has his bias, but there’s no doubt about it- Daisy, as cute as a button, is the best damn dog in the universe.
“Looks like you missed me a lot today,” Jean chuckles, running his fingers through the soft fur behind her ears. Her tongue laps repeatedly over his face, giving her daddy the most eager of kisses, and Jean’s chuckle transforms into a full-blown laugh.
“Damn, the last time a girl kissed me this much was college. Let’s get you some dinner and then we can play a bit before daddy has to shower, okay?”
As if she understands English, Daisy barks in approval, and almost trips Jean as she gallops over to her food bowl. Her excitable nature and boundless energy make her adorable, but a lot of work; however, Jean doesn’t mind a bit. His energy levels, far below hers, may pose a problem to their playtime, but he knows he has to burn hers off somehow.
But fuck, he’s tired. He just needs some goddamn sleep.
As Daisy eats, Jean drags himself to his room and pulls off his stinky and slightly damp uniform, running a hand through his sweat-matted hair. A sigh escapes his lips….finally. He’s finally out of that fucking uniform, one he has been feeling disgusting in for an hour now, and he can cleanse himself of all his hard work in the shower. What a fucking relief.
Jean doesn’t bother with clothes as he emerges in only his dark blue boxer briefs, hearing the sound of little paws trotting around the tile of the kitchen into the carpeted floor of the family room. After playing tug of war and fetch for a half hour while simultaneously eating a Lean Cuisine roast beef and mashed potato meal, Jean decides that his exhaustion gets the better of him and he needs to turn in early.
He can take a shower tomorrow morning. He’s beat.
“Daisy, I’m gonna go to bed now. Wanna join me?”
His coaxing is ineffective, and Jean heads to bed by himself. After quite literally plopping down onto his bed with a thunk, the mattress sinking in to comfort him, he closes his eyes.
The crispness and coolness of the sheets felt so damn good against his hot and sticky skin, the way an apple cider tastes on his tongue as the liquid flows down his throat. Fuck moving to put on a shirt tonight. In fact, fuck moving at all. He’s not getting up. Like comforting touches, his smooth, soft, silver sheets lull him to sleep quickly, and he dreams about himself and Daisy with a smile on his face.
