Oasis
This dig was a dream come true for Jai Kapoor. He’d always been interested in history and archaeology. Egypt was one of the pinnacles of ancient civilizations and here he was, ready to dig it up. He’d been selected for his position due to his knowledge on the culture and ability to read the ancient hieroglyphics. Their team was looking at uncharted territory. No one has ever dug up the Dakhla Oasis. He was going to be one of the first. He was like a giddy child.
He came out of his tent, stretching. The tent wasn’t made for a man of his stature, but he was not going to complain about a single thing on this trip, so he slept scrunched up and stretched it out throughout the day. He basked in the early Egyptian sun and looked out on the green that was surrounded by miles of desert. They were far from civilization, but that only brought their team closer.
He headed towards a group of people around the breakfast table. “Good morning!” he said as he approached. The nice thing about his team was that none of them complained about the early starts to their days. They needed to work with the daylight, they all knew that. He reached for a piece of fruit and bumped hands with the prettiest girl on his team. He smiled up at her. “Sorry.”
