Looking back on everything, Jai never thought he would live to see 21, let alone even see 41. He especially never saw how hard he fell for his silly little cook. But now, with Asha officiating their wedding and Pierre looking as beautiful as he did when they were 19, all of his pain was worth it. Jai gripped his hands tightly, tuning out part of Asha’s words unintentionally as they both waited for the one sentence.
“By the powers of the Fire Pirates, I grant you two to be married. You may kiss-” Asha started and stopped with a light laugh as Pierre pulled Jai into a kiss. The two of them pulled away gently, their foreheads pressed against each other’s, breathing heavily. Jai smiled wide, wide, wide, feeling his jaws ache so hard.
“You know you could’ve waited for her to finish her sentence.”
“Well I could, but I was just waiting for her to say we were officially married. Couldn’t wait after that.”
Jai, with no retort on the tip of his tongue as he felt the same, only laughed lightly as he pulled Pierre into another kiss. The cheers and hollers from their crew, their allies, their friends all faded in the background. Like the only thing that was on their ship was just the two of them. Jai gently pulled apart so that he could thread his fingers through Pierre’s longer, wavier blonde hair that now reached the middle of his back.
“You always look so beautiful with your hair down,” Jai said softly, both of his hands cupping the side of his face. Even on their wedding day, Pierre would still be so embarrassed by simple compliments.
“And you always say that,” Pierre grumbled at him with a little pout, making Jai lean over to his ear.
“Well now I’m getting to say it to my wife.”
Pierre squeaked in response and his smile became wide, wide, wider. Shining brighter than the very sun that was beating down on them on their special day. He wrapped his arms around his neck and nuzzled his nose to Jai’s.
“I’m your wife and your husband. Not just your boyfriend and girlfriend,” Pierre murmured in a daze, the reality of everything hitting him. Jai nodded in response, kissing the tip of his nose. It would be a day that Jai could never forget.
