मुझे एक अफसोस है, वह अफसोस यह है कि मैं उन्हें पूरे अर्थों में शहीद क्यों नहीं कह पाता हूँ, मरते सभी हैं, यहां बचना किसको है! आगे-पीछे सबको जाना है, पर मौत शहीद की ही सार्थक है, क्योंकि वह जीवन की विजय को घोषित करती है। आज यही ग्लानि मन में घुट-घुटकर रह जाती है कि प्रेमचन्द शहादत से क्यों वंचित रह गये? मैं मानता हूँ कि प्रेमचंद शहीद होने योग्य थे, उन्हें शहीद ही बनना था।
