This is a mixtape done by Mick Boogie in homage to the Tribe. It's probably one of the better mixtapes I've heard lately. You can tell Mick Boogie is a big Tribe fan and puts some cool twists on some classics. Until the last Tribe album on Jive comes out (yes, I believe it will happen) little nuggets like this will have to do.
Enjoy
I saw this last weekend at the New Zealand International Film Festival. To be honest I didn't know much about the doco before I saw it, other than the fact it was about the Tribe (obviously), and that it was directed by that dude from Boston Public.
It exceeded my expectations. I'm not going to lie I'm a huge Tribe fan so I wasn't going to be hard to please, but the audience was predominately middle-class professionals, trying to be cool and edgy by going to a festival doco about hip-hop. They seemed to enjoy it, so the movie does have a broader appeal.
The most intriguing aspect of the film, was the examination of the relationship between Q-Tip and Phife. Q-Tip reminded me of MJ. He's that intense teammate, who's an absolute perfectionist and needs everyone to be at his level and function with the same ruthless efficiency. Phife is more laid back and the film left me feeling a bit sorry for him.
