It wasn't until Wheatley had chugged past the portal, a splatter of burning neon orange there upon the hallway wall, that he seriously wondered if that particular dimensional rift had always been there. Brakes applied, shrill and neglected, as the little robot pivoted on the rail to reconsider the daily phenomenon.
Perhaps, he thought as he reversed back toward the opening, he should have done some sort of book-keeping in regards to his ever expanding collection of interdimensional doorways. At least some notes, a number system, even just giving them nicknames- literally any effort at all. He studiously squinted his shutters into this glimpse of an entire alternate world, failing to spot any significant landmark that reminded him of having approached it before.
Well, what better way to find out than to ask?
"Hello! Heeee-lloooo!" Wheatley called out, straining against his limited range of motion as he sought any semblance of movement, of life, beyond the small scope of the portal. "Anyone there? Hole in the wall, talking hole in the wall, amazing to see! Come on over, check it out, it'll be worth your time! If you're there. And I'm not talking to myself. Which would look rather silly, so, wow, it'd be stellar if you interrupted me any moment now! .... hello?"
