Jim Reid *December 29, 1961
After listening to the Psychocandy 40th anniversary interview by Life of the Record, I wanted to elaborate on the following points or topics brought up by the Reids:
Highlighted are instances of the two being codependent on each other. In most circumstances these could be regular complements or feelings but with the disclosing of the "telekinetic communication” this is another thing to prove their necessity for each other. The trusting taste is nothing, however, this is just them being similar and I thought it was cute.
This isn’t much either. I suppose it could be read as strange if your perception of “regular brothers” is different from Williams. I again wanted to add this because it was very cute and made me giggle. Little brother is my buddy… Just too cute really. This is what makes them so sweetie. A lot of this interview consists of them ordinarily praising each other and their musical faculties. But this is something that comes natural to the Reids, due to their exceeding fondness for each other.
This is the last of my transcript specifics. It solidifies a mention that I had made in the proof document (listed in bio), where the two are close in a way that feels unorthodox. Sidewalking is a good example of this. Anything produced by the band in terms of official publication (songs, music videos) are rigorously looked over and edited by the Reids. This is what makes the instances of them being in contact “too close” for traditional brothers errant in a way that implies something more. This could also be Jim hanging off of William in music videos, or the moment of him running his hand down William’s back.
Aside from those exact examples, I have more I want to talk about. The interview, like the book, is done separately so all mentions they make are of their own volition and they often mention things the very same or use the same phrasing as the other. What I would like to bring up is when they mention the nouns of their life (parents, residence etc) they always refer to it as the possessive “my” instead of “our”. This I have nothing to say on, but I think it's something to take note of. If brought into the delusional mindset, we could argue that this furthers their view of each other as a joint being as opposed to two separate people.
Continuing on the possessive terms, Jim refers to “his” flat in Fulham (that I would cite, but the transcript spells it as “Fillum”, which is incorrect and bothersome.) where he came up with many songs. This is the flat in London that he and Douglas lived in together while Laurence was still in France. Despite William living an hour away almost, he still was often at Jim's house, see the following.
They both mention that they enjoyed the production of Psychocandy being solo, where the two of them were in the studio most of the time. Bobby off with Primal Scream, and Douglas not apt to play the bass in the way required of the band, he too was not in the studio as often as the Reids. Much of the recording, based on the literal perception of what is said, is that they spent all day at the studio recording, then all day at home. Before that, it was spending all day at home too and still in the Fulham flat. Why I bring this up is to indurate the ship correlations to this quote
Despite having girlfriends, and I will of course take this into consideration, they were still living together and constantly around each other. One interview states them as being like Siamese twins or something along those lines. Either Jim lies about the frequency of having sex or they were likely having sex around each other or in conjunctional moments between seeing each other. Everything to be said about the Reid’s sex lives, in separation, comes back to the feature of them being knowledgeable and invasive of the others' relations often in detail. Such as Jim knowing when William hooked up with several women during the start of the band, likely before he settled with his girlfriend at the time. This could be because they see, hear or engage with it because of their shared bedsit. That this doesn’t cause enough discomfort to stop.
Once again, this is all speculation but what you exude is how you're perceived.
Jim: 😠🤬
William: 😒🙄
