"While I don't believe in love at first sight, because I think it takes more work than that, I do believe that one soul can speak to another and find an inexplicably deep connection over a short period of time, unimaginably short, and know that it will never forget that soul, that moment, or the light it emits forever."
James Carmichael, The Brontë Plot
James's Valentines to Alexandra over the years
Age 6:
Roses are red. Violets are blue. I have one friend, and that's you. Thanks for being my friend!
Age 10:
Happy Valentine's Day, Alexandra! *crudely drawn stick figures of J & A*
Age 13:
This Valentine is cheezy because I'm super sneezy. Sorry that I got a cold on Valentines Day and couldn't hang out with you. :(
Age 16:
Ireland is green, and white, and orange I didn't think this through Happy Valentine's Day to the best gal pal adventure buddy a guy could ask for!
Age 18:
*forgot to make one*
Two weeks later:
Roses are red. Violets are blue. I'd be honored to give all of my heart to you. If this isn't too cheesy and you're slightly impressed, I don't care the color of your dress; but would you meet me and the end of an aisle on a day that we'll always remember and smile? I don't have a ring yet 'cause Peter's bride gets my mom's, but if waiting for the ring would cause you no qualms, I have one more question: could we make vows for the whole world to see? Dearest Alexandra, will you marry me?

Instant Funk
"I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl)" (Cold Duck re-edit)
A re-edit I put together of Instant Funk's signature tune, "I Got My Mind Made Up." Easily one of the most sexist funk tracks from the disco era, it is however, one of my favorites as the band churns out a whopper of a groove and the production (by Bunny Sigler) and mix are top-notch. This re-edit blends portions of Larry Levan's remix with the original version, as I've always found Levan's remix a little too unconventional in its structure (which puts a very long break into the mix right after the intro), if also a wonderful investigation of the places this groove can go.

Special Thanks to Greg Womack for his interest in this mix. I almost passed out when I saw my name listed on the same album jacket as that of Francois Kevorkian (Salsoul Sensations Re-Edit Project, vol. V).
