New L.A. Duo OSBS Connect w/ 2 Chainz [Audio] - By Jack Barnes Blending Dirty South and West Coast rap sounds into a signature concoction, Big U-signed duo OSBScut a unique figure in modern hip-hop. Preparing a batch of radio-ready heaters, the duo of Smoke and D5 announce No Cap, their debut EP. Unbound by region or style, the strength of OSBS (short for "On Some Bullshit") is in the chemistry of the two members and their complementary approaches to the mic. Smoke's drawl occupies a space between singing and rapping, stretching syllables in unpredictable ways to craft hooks, while D5 rhymes in an auto-tuned monotone, locking into airtight cadences and expertly navigating negative space. On No Cap EP, Crenshaw duo creates their own melting pot of rap styles, taking elements of L.A. rider music and ATL trap and creating a fiery brand of party music. Featuring appearances from Lil Baby, Gunna, 2 Chainz, and Lil Xan, No Cap EP arrives on November 16th via Uneek/EMPIRE. India Shawn – Outer Limits ft. Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter James Fauntelroy from her forthcoming EP of the same name.

India (who collaborated with James Fauntelroy on the entire Outer Limits EP) told Billboard that “Outer Limits was the first song we created for this [EP]... I went straight to the studio from LAX, and James asked where I wanted to go with the project. My immediate response was, 'The outer limits!' He was like, 'You sure about that?' And no more than 20 minutes later he was free-styling what would be the title track to our project."
Outer Limits EP is expected to be released in March.
Something for your Ear Interview : Abdul-Razak Z. What do you have for our ears?: Nate by Vince Staples Who is he? Vince Staples is a young rapper from Long Beach, California. Though not an actual member of Odd Future, Staples has showed up on a few Odd Future tracks, mostly with fellow Cali rapper Earl Sweatshirt. Spitting rhymes relevant to his life in gang areas of Long Beach and Compton, Staples is quickly expanding his list of collaborations with artists like Mac Miller, Jhene Aiko and, most recently, Common. Why should we be listening? Staples offers a view of a child that has to see drug deals, gang violence and familial issues all while developing his own idea of who he wants to be in the world. He uses reflective lyrics and a flow that pauses and shifts slightly between lines so you can stop and imagine this image, this life that he wants to depict. James Fauntleroy offers great vocals on the bridge, describing that with such a lack of opportunities outside of crime, parents must resort to drug dealing and gangbanging just to make ends meet. They want to leave something positive for their families, but Staples knows that it just leaves the children thinking that the only way to live well is to do like their parents did. “Cause my daddy did it.” Craving more?
