The Amazing Transparent Man (1960)
Okay so I wasn’t sold on the IMDB blurb for this film...
A crazed scientist invents an invisibility formula. He plans to use the formula to create an army of invisible zombies.
But the description in the booklet with the DVDs? Oh my god.
Crazed ex-military officer Paul Krenner has dreams of world domination when he forces unwilling scientist Peter Ulof to do his bidding. Ulof must develop a process to induce invisibility through atomic radiation. With this in his armory, Krenner plans to create an invisible military force and sell it to the highest bidder. They break safecracker Joey Faust out of jail and make him invisible so he can steal more radium. Then events take an unexpected turn.
This one’s our first black and white film.
Eight minutes in and we ship Joey Faust and Paul Krenner.
Ulof had involvement with the nazis but he seems to have been forced into doing science for them. figured that’s worth a mention.
The first half of the movie seems to be not a lot happening? Very drawn out setup in a house that seems to be built for someone smaller than most of our cast.
Man hits woman a few times. We hate him.
Watching everyone act around the invisible man is very enjoyable.
This could probably have been condensed into an episode of like.. the twilight zone or something? It’s not strictly bad but its longer than it needs to be. also the invisible zombies seem to be more of a concept and not something that ever makes an... ‘appearance’ in the film.
i’d call it a solid 6/10. No humorous rating system for this one, alas.
