oh dear, from bad to worse ~

I put off writing this for the last twelve hours, but I have no choice now, and I can't sugarcoat it. I was braced to move into my car indefinitely tomorrow, with my plan to park at various McD's, Dunkin's, and the Barnes & Noble in town, hanging out inside so I could have bathroom and electricity access, to keep my phone charged. Had a wee errand to run today, but my car wouldn't start. Long story short? I can't move my car anywhere now because the alternator died. Estimates for replacement & labor are $500-$1,000. So basically, I'm screwed.

I got two nights grace from a relative who can't really afford it, to allow me a couple nights more in a room before I'm out on the street. There's no way I can live in my non-working car in the motel parking lot. To try to walk to the nearest public restroom as needed is out of the question with my heart condition, let alone the heat. I'm nearly out of time and nearly out of hope. So here I am again, begging for the kindness of strangers--honestly, I'm so worn down by the Struggle to Survive, there are moments I just want to lay down, fall asleep, and not wake up.

Hey, but don't worry, I could never take my own life. First, because as I'm sure I've mentioned, I'm the most stubborn b*tch that you might ever meet. And more importantly, there's this quote that has stuck with me my whole life since reading it in my teens, from Samwise Gamgee in The Two Towers:

"...but where there's life, there's hope..."

Yeah, a Hobbit's wisdom. Tolkien's wisdom. Keeping me hanging on by a silver thread.

Anyway, if anyone can help, I'm setting the goal at $600, fingers crossed the job can get done, and soon, for less. Amen, Lord. AMEN. And bless anyone that answers this plea!

excerpt - angst, yearning, a secret revealed after a long separation

Duncan x Scarlett - lovers reunited

....."How are you more beautiful now than I remember," he asked, his voice grave and as sad as his eyes. "How does it seem that time has barely touched you, while I feel the weight and the wear of every night I slept in the hedges since then, dreaming of finding my way back to you?"

"Ser Duncan, I...," Scarlett faltered. For all the time she'd known this meeting was coming, for all the years she'd had to prepare, no words would come as she faced him at last.

He stood before her, taking her hand, his touch as warming to her heart as it ever was. Quietly, so no one around them, not even the boy, could hear what he told her. "You haven't called me that since before our first night together, sweet lass." He took her other hand. "For all that I have gained and become, I haven't changed one mote from the lad that first loved you, not in any way that matters."

"Still Dunk," she asked softly, trembling hard to have him so near after ten years of missing him every day since they'd parted. And every night. "Still my sweet lad?"

"As ever, Scarlett." Tears stood in his eyes, proof that the tender heart she had loved so well, still beat strong in his chest. "You could have sent for me, love. Let me know you had a son. Our son..."

"I sent you away to take up your destiny, Dunk. My love for you demanded I remain thus resolved."

"Why now, then?" A strain of anger had crept into his voice, as soft-spoken and patient as he remained. "Why not leave me ignorant and protect him from being called the bastard of a hedge knight?"

Scarlett broke from his gaze, wishing she had the strength to keep her tears at bay. "Because he is your son, Dunk. And not fit for the life of a weaver." She stepped in to him, close enough to kiss as she looked up into his blue, blue eyes. "I cannot give him the life he deserves anymore. It's time for him to know and to serve you."

"As squire or son?"

"That I must leave in your hands, my love. A father's wisdom and choice.

"I'm not sure I can, sweet lass. There...there is much to consider. Surely you know this."

"Aye, I do." How badly she wanted to reach for him! To cup her hand against his cheek and tell him she still loved him exactly as she had that day on the beach. And that her body still burned with the memories of how he had loved her, and would again if given the chance. Scarlett could only remind herself she was here on account of their boy. The only soul she loved fiercely enough to eclipse her love for Duncan. For her Dunk. "But will you look upon him now? He bears your likeness, as though stamped from birth to be another you.".....
