James Hayes - "Being in the World" (2020)
Concept: Fighting Styles
Tom being the best fighter for a while in s1 not because he was technically skilled, but because he was reckless. For a group not used to having to fight or die, as a zombie he didn't feel the same strain on his body as he fought.
Heavier swords, more power behind his movements, less pain after each hit taken. Tom took over the battlefield because he was a zombie, unable to feel the consequences of his reckless, destructive behavior.
Which is why, when the playing field was leveled through gear and improvement, Tom started to fall behind in combat prowess. Why Jordan began to outmatch Tom.
Jordan was pure technical skill. He was meticulous and methodic in his practice, preferring the discipline of bows over the raw power of swords. He took his time, planned his blows, and knew where to best hit his opponent. Tom didn't feel pain as much as the others, but a good strike still would take him down and have him grit his teeth.
Tucker focused on his swordsmanship and working shields into his style. If Tom was sheer force, Tucker was a solid defense. The first time Tucker blocked Tom's sword and held firm, a shift happened between them. It wasn't Tom dominating every fight anymore. It was a genuine battle, an actual dance of blades.
Sonja isn't a fighter, but she's quick and agile. Unless she has to make a stand, she runs, darting between trees and bushes and rocks and leaving people behind in a daze of twists and turns. When she has to fight it's with a single shortsword, allowing her to sneak in quick, shallow hits that wear you down over time. Against Tom, she is at a disadvantage, but if need be she can work to wear him down until one of the others arrives.
Wag doesn't fight in any traditional means. He is a magic user through and through, even when stripped of it. With his magic he is a force to be reckoned with, able to conjure up a quick defense or blast out a strong offense. Without it, he works on deceptions and slight of hand. It's similar to magic, really, all about getting the opponents focus away from what you're really trying to do. While his form with a sword is sloppy at best and his bow aim is barely there, as long as he can get you distracted he stands a fighting chance. And if things go south, one good misdirect is all he needs to a quick exit.
so i’ve recently started watching Glitch on Netflix which is an Australian drama about a bunch of people who died at random times in history and have all risen from the dead at the same time.
Kate is one of the resurrected. she was this guy James’ wife, and died 2 years prior to the start of the series. meanwhile while grieving, James and her best friend, Sarah, did the nasty less than a year after she died, and married 1.5 years after she died.
here is the aftermath for your entertainment because i find this scene incredibly funny (James gives very Ross Geller vibes imo) + bonus the German Shepherd i’m sitting right now
Bless my soul I started rewatching Mianite s2 from Waglington’s perspective. I love my mischievous British wizard.
James tells us in the first episode that Waglington used to be a wizard, but he lost all his memories of it when they fell from the sky and now he’s on a mission to regain his magical abilities.
As always when it comes to Minecraft, I treat the personas and the players as different people, so this is Waglington, not James.
For the ask headcanons: Wag
Realistic: Wag really likes to mess with the gods since he's kind of on a level playing field with them. Not in a malicious way, since he doesn't want to start a war, but he'll prank them in the same way as the champions prank each other. This is apart from when he notices one of his friends have been pushed a little too hard, where suddenly the champion always seems to quickly get some days to relax, very unrelated to Wag having a 'chat' with their god.
Unrealistic, but funny: The face you can see is a mask attached to his cloak. He has assured the others that he does have a face and a head, though this made them all suspicious that he actually doesn't.
Heart-breaking and awful: Wag was stuck alone in the season 2 world for a lot longer than he admit to any of the others. He got their about a year and a half ahead of the champions. While he wasn't completely isolated, as he visited the town often enough, he had pretty much accepted that he was stuck without his powers in a word where no one properly knew him by the time the others showed up and proved him wrong.
Unrealistic, but canon can fight me: When they get back to the season 1 world after the events of season 2, Wag ends up slowly regaining his powers. He assumes this is because he's back in his own world, but in reality, Tom (now at full god strength) is slowly gifting him powers to make his friend happy.
((thank you for all the asks ^-^ I'll do the free choice one tomorrow after I've had some time to think about who I want to do headcanons for))
i dunno if you guys have been keeping up with Wag over on twit but i wanted to share the news
so i'm thinking we do something nice for him, show our favourite wizard some love. i don't know if he has a P.O. box but i'm sure he'll love a flood of kind tweets :)
*He travels for a few minutes, the same dull, long tone emitting from his communicator.*
*It didn't get any louder as he went, but it also didn't get quieter like it did when he faced a different direction.*
I hope I'm not running off on a fools errand.
*Wag looks behind him. Even though he could have sworn he'd gotten some good distance on the beach, he was only barely away from it.*
This seems a bit strange. Maybe there's some latent magic in the land.
*He eyes the sand. Nudges it with his foot.*
Or maybe I'm losing it.
*Wag continues onward. In the distance, he can see vague non-sand shapes. But whenever he tries to get closer or to focus on them, they seem to fade out of his sight.*
*He's not sure if he's going somewhere or going mad.*
I have depression after #GlitchNetflix season finale
My poor and sweet baby boy Charlie 😭😭😭And my best girl Kristie😭😭😭 and my tough girl Katie😭😭😭 and my grumpy cop James and my awkward cop Chris 😭😭😭
