He stared out over the fields as he took another hit of his cigarette. "You know," he starts, exhaling smoke. "I only started smoking because my dad did. Nothing I did was ever enough for him. Always lacking something. And I thought to myself, maybe if I make myself more like him, he'll love me." He paused to take another hit, and you watched the end of his cigarette pulse orange and red. "It was stupid," he continued. "Don't really know why I thought it would work. And now..." He shrugged. "Guess it stuck."
