Draw near
Update; since my last text post I prayed about how I was feeling and asked God to do anything, but just not to let me stay in a place of avoiding Him. After that some things I saw challenged and pushed me and on the way home from work I sought out God allot more honestly. And now I know this; God is not distant from me when I run and go and do stuff I shouldn't or am in a mood of wanting other things. It is that I have hardened my heart perhaps, and become distant from Him. So it is really up to us guys. God leaves the ball in our court as far as wanting to draw close to Him, give Him our time or life goes. He will never force it. I have this to think about and act upon. I hope I've encouraged somebody else to do the same.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. - James 4:8
thanking Me frequently
"When your mind is occupied with thanking Me, you have no time worrying or complaining. If you practice thankfulness consistently negative thought patterns with gradually grow weaker and weaker.
Draw near to Me with a grateful <3, and My Presence will fill you, (insert your name) with Joy & Peace. " - Jesus Calling devotional by Sarah Young.
"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God for YOU (again, I like to insert my name here) in Christ Jesus."
-1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
"Draw near to God, and He will draw near to YOU."
-James 4:8
I thought this was very pertinant to American Thanksgiving last Thursday.
Shattuck St.Mary's: Not only are we known for producing elite hockey players, but also elite pilgrims.
Wow, this is something I am totally growing in! I am trying to walk, more stumbling than walking, in thankfulness. Anxiety and worry and to-do lists plague my thoughts as soon as I get up in the morning. But I am trying very hard to instead thank God for example, the late sleep in I had, my body needed a good rejuvinating rest, rather than worrying about how I slept thru the alarm and how much stuff I have to do.
It is so easy to focus on all the things that could go better, instead of focussing in on all the blessings that we each have, so unique to each one of us, and so unique to each of the seasons of life we are in at this moment. There is so much more to be thankful for than to worry about. Easier said than done, however. I am the first to confess to that. But, regardless, I want to challenge you (and myself) to whenever I am either tempted to complain/worry (which is more often than not), or even when I just truly enjoy something, as simple as the sunshine and non-rainy day in Vancouver, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good and these are blessings from Him, for YOU. Like it says in His Word, these blessings are given with a purpose, uniquely to each of us, uniquely to the time and season of life we are in. They are no coincidence or accident, but unique, personalized acts of love. Now, that deserves some thanks.
James 4:8
"Draw near to God, and He'll draw near to you"
so you may see the world from a different view.
And even if times are hard,
He's always there like a shining star,
though sometimes hidden by a clouded hue.
