living in bristol wasn't your favorite thing, it was so lame — until you stumbled upon james cook.
you wouldn't say it was a romantic introduction, it was so far from that.
it was around 12 am, you had been walking back home from the fitch household after a hangout with emily and katie — who you had met a shop, before your first day of school.
you had been attending private school for a while before they 'nicely' kicked you out after your mom could no longer afford paying the raising fees.
anyway, walking through bristol wasnt as fun as it sounded, especially considering where your new home was located – which wasn't such a great part. but it was your new home.
"oi," you turn around, startled at the voice of a man — who appeared to be around your age actually. "got a light?" he asks as he walks up to you, checking you out.
you furrow your brows and shake your head, "no.. no i dont sorry." he nods and puts the cigarette back in his jacket pocket, standing beside you now, "where ya' going?" he raises his brow and smiles softly. "its not safe for ya'."
you shrug and feel your checks flush – you weren't one to make conversation with anyone just out and about. especially not guys, everyone makes you quite nervous and you get all awkward.
"cook's the name. i go to roundview college, casually." he holds out his hand for you to shake, which you do, telling him your name and his introduction kind of warmed you up. "say, i'll walk you?" you nod and begin walking.
"you go to roundview?" he asks as he kicks a rock. "i start tomorrow." he hums and smirks, "guess you've got a familiar face to look for." you chuckle, "i've got friends."
he nods, "'s that where you've come from? friends house? or a party?" you side eye him and scoff, "im not dressed for a party." he glances your way one more time before keeping his eyes forward. "i think you're lying."
you gasp and stop in your steps causing him to stop and turn, "you dont even know me! you're trying to get me into some emotional distress or something." he shakes his head, "why would i bother you with such difficulties?" you narrow your eyes at him, a scoff slipping past your lips.
you begin walking again, cook following in your steps. "have you got a boyfriend?" you let out a giggle at the question, you knew he would ask it eventually – he seems like the guy who would. "no. you? a girlfriend i mean. unless you're not..?" you bite your lip at the words that you just put together for him.
he laughs at you, head thrown back and all. "i fancy women, thank you."
you push his shoulder lightly, your cheeks flushed from embarrassment. "no girl ever loves the cookie monster." you stop walking and turn to face him. "oi, if you're gonna keep stopping let me know."
"take it back." you mumble, "what?" "take the nickname back." you say rubbing your eyes. "the cookie monster?" "yeah." he does a little turn before fixing his hair, "you dont like it? 's what my girls call me. cookie."
you exhale and shake your head, "its foul. i loathe it." you lift your hands up in dramatization. "and girls? you get around, dont you?" he chuckles and smirks, "everyone likes a cookie."
you scrunch your nose in annoyance of the repeating nickname, half of it is disgust.
"oh, come on. smile, love." he says as he lifts your chin with his finger— you stop, he stops. "pretty." he whispers. "my house is there" you whisper back, pointing towards the house behind him.
he turns, his finger slipping from the warmth of your chin. "nice." he says as he sighs, "well, you're home safe. and i've gotta find a light and head back to mine." you nod and smile, walking up to your front steps. "see you again?" you ask as you turn to face him, his back briefly facing you before he turns.
"can't get enough of the cookie?" you groan in annoyance. "way to ruin the moment, cook!"
