Pre-dating prompt where Lily gets mad at James for something completely justified? Please?
Aww thanks nonny :) 500 words for you!
"James!" Lily shouted while dragging her luggage across the platform. The unruly haired boy was facing away from her as she pushed her way through the crowd toward him but he did not turn around. She could tell that he had heard her from the flinch he gave and the hesitation in his step. Lily lost him in the crowd and gave a quiet squeal in frustration. The boy she had considered a friend had completely ignored her during the summer even after promising to meet up with her once she had found out he had been the recipient of Head Boy. She decided she was going to get down to the bottom of this cold shoulder act once they boarded the Hogwarts Express. It took her quite a few minutes once the train started to locate his compartment, but Lily emerged victorious. As soon as she opened the door, James looked up and gave a sheepish glance. Sirius, Remus, and Peter took one look at Lily’s expression before they exchanged knowing looks and quickly vacated the compartment, ignoring James’s protests at being abandoned.
Lily decided a direct approach would be best. “James, you promised we’d meet up over the summer and you completely blew me off. What happened?”
“Look Lily, it’s not that big of a deal. Marcia just isn’t that comfortable with me hanging out with you,” James mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck.
“That’s rubbish. Did you tell her that we’ve grown up together?” She couldn’t comprehend how James’ girlfriend could actually feel threatened by her. After all, James hadn’t picked her.
“That did come up but it didn’t exactly comfort her.”
“Well, certainly seeing as we’re Heads and friends she knows we’ll be associating with each other frequently even outside of academics?” Lily reasoned.
“I don’t think that’s a very good idea.”
“So you’re saying you want us to be strictly professional?” Lily deadpanned.
“It’s for the best,” he replied, running a hand through his hair making it even more unruly.
“Oh.” She paused. “Well I guess if you’re the kind of person who accepts ditching friends just because a bird says so—”
“Lils don’t be like that.”
“No no. I completely understand. It’s probably best we aren’t even seen speaking together. We wouldn’t want that to get back to Marcia.”
“Lily, be reasonable!”
“Be reasonable?! Let me tell you something James Potter: I’m the only one in this bloody situation acting reasonably!” Lily whirled around on her heel and slammed the compartment door. Seconds after she left, the lads returned.
“Shut up Moony,” James said gloomily.
“I didn’t say anything,” Remus responded, his arms raised in mock surrender.
“You didn’t have to. I can see the ‘I-told-you-so’ glance from over here,” James bristled, “Back me up, Padfoot.”
“As much as I have to agree with you, Prongs, Moony is still right.”
“Are you serious!?”
“Quite,” he waggled his eyebrows.
“Oh stuff it,” James sighed. “Why is she even mad?
“Because she likes you.”
