I gotta say that long winded piece about writing you reblogged about an hour ago is probably the worst piece of advice I’ve ever seen. In every example the author took a simple and clear sentence, which could easily be part of any well written paragraph, and rewrote it into a long, meandering, unclear sentence that should be a paragraph on its own. I mean do they think writers still get paid by the word? Not to mention how much sentences like that suck to read. I worry that’s the kind of advice that will paralyze writers who might think simple and clear means bad.
Not that I think you’re like accountable for anything you reblog. I read that and wanted to say something but the op was from like 3 years ago so I doubt they’d remember
Yeah, that's fair. Pretty much any advice that says any one writing technique is unequivocally wrong is bogus, and almost anything targeted by those 'NEVER do this in writing!' tips can actually be applied quite well in the right context. New writers definitely shouldn't get bogged down in trying to write according to every piece of restrictive and contradictory advice they read online.
That said, I for sure had D&D on the brain and wasn't really thinking about traditional forms of writing when I reblogged that post, lol. I'm working on being more engaged with the roleplay aspect as both a player and as an (out of practice) DM and a great way (for me and the folks I play with) to do that is to show-not-tell. I find myself a lot more satisfied with a scene if I can actually describe the actions/mannerisms of a character instead of just saying that "I do (this)"/"this happens" because that, for my particular group, tends to lead us more into meta territory when that's something we're trying to cut down on.
tl;dr, yeah, that definitely shouldn't be taken as a hard and fast rule, people should be allowed to explore all kinds of writing styles and techniques, and my bad for perpetuating that advice unintentionally.
Also sorry for not seeing this until much later lol I have tumblr notifications turned off so I don't go insane.
for the ask meme steel and carmine but in a platonic way

for the intimidating post
🐯
(very intimidating)
one on hand I respect your subjective experience and I’m sorry I come across that way (& would also really truly love to know *why* that is), on the other hand this is very funny to me because in person i somehow have the type of energy that leads strangers to tell me the most batshit things apropos of nothing
I think that millennial comic was made by dilfosaur
oh okay, thanks! It looked really familiar but I couldn’t place it!
ur type is a) cute girls, b) dumb, nonthreatening fictional men
i mean on the most basic level, yeah
for the number questions...........heheh.. 69.......
69: Do you believe in soulmates?
No. There’s too many people on the planet, so the idea of meeting such a person by chance is unrealistic to me. I do believe that people can build a lasting relationship with a lot of effort, time, a trust.
