WHERE: marie’s. WHO: @indyerstraits & alec.
Icy breath plumed in front of him, the cold metal of the van pressing into his back as he watched from his vantage point. Marie’s interior was framed by the wide front windows, the orange tinted fluorescents casting a warm light upon the scene, and Alec searched every face from his perch for the only one he’d come here to see.
He’d watched Hope disappear inside and all the anticipation of what came next danced the macarena in the pit of his stomach. In these empty minutes when he was left to wonder when the songs would play, if he’d even notice them, if this was actually just a terribly stupid, juvenile idea that was only going to end with more weirdness, he began to second guess himself.
Nothing had been made any less complicated than it’d been since the resort. If anything, things had only gotten more confusing. But Alec missed Jamie. And maybe he wanted to be selfish. He was never going to get through the tangled mess that currently made up his life if he didn’t start by following a single thread.
So, it had led him here.
Rubbing his hands together both for warmth and to expel a little nervous energy, Alec finally spotted Jamie moving through Marie’s, and he felt his throat thicken. He thought of what he planned to say, had replayed it over and over in his mind, and fought to hold onto some semblance of the words now. This was all so new to him: nerves, putting himself on the line, grand gestures. It all made him feel a little nauseous.
But it was only when Jamie’s demeanor changed, head swiveling madly around the dining room that Alec knew the songs had both played, and he felt the heat of uncertainty creeping up the back of his neck. He was smiling, though, as he watched Jamie search for him, something about it causing his chest to constrict.
He was still smiling, a small half-curve of a thing, when Jamie found his eyes through the window. He stared back, lifting a hand in a small, almost uncertain, wave.
