We’re back with the end of @vivaillajams ‘s takeover! It was phenomenal. Here is Jamilla’s response to the question, When did you decide to pursue Art? “I’ve known since sixth grade that art was going to be my profession but when I officially decided that I really needed to take that goal seriously, was in junior year of high school. I was at Wilson Senior High School and was taking an “art class” and sculpture class for the first time in high school. It was then I realized I wasn’t getting the training I needed to produce a strong portfolio of work for college so I told my mom I wanted to transfer to Duke Ellington School of the Arts.” Do you want to read more? I had a wonderful time today @BronxnetTV. Myself along with Jamilla Okubo/@jamillaokubo were interviewed by host Rhina Valentin/ @rhinavalentin. Jamilla and I discussed the ways in which our traditional and cultural backgrounds influence our art practice. In addition to that, we also talked about our current duo show, "Conversations in Patterns, Textiles, Figures, and Portraits", @calabargallery.
