James tries to text ahead when he plans on crashing with Jamie after a mission, not wanting to scare the other man too much if he comes home to find James asleep on the sofa.
James is fully aware that Jamie has a bit of a crush on him, and he’d be lying if he said he hadn’t thought about Jamie a few times, but he doesn’t want to create an awkward working environment, hence why he only kissed Jamie that one time when they were in the pub.
Jamie’s perfectly willing to help James avoid Mallory, Q and Medical for a night, but if he catches James trying to avoid them the next day he marches him straight to whoever’s waiting.
There’s an unspoken rule between them that Jamie doesn’t ask about James’ mission or injuries until breakfast when James crashes with him. James doesn’t like talking about them immediately, he needs
'Wait! What are yo-'
James had taken Jamie out for drinks after work as a thank you for when he’d let James crash on his sofa for the night. They’d taken a table in the corner, with James facing the entrance to the pub to keep him at ease, and had been talking about nothing in particular for the past hour. He wasn’t quite sure if it was because of the alcohol, but James was realising just how attractive he found the younger man. Never having been one to pass up on an opportunity, James leaned across the table and kissed Jamie once there was a lull in the conversation.

➏ a “morning after” letter
Jamie,I just wanted you to know that even though I’m already gone, I’m not trying to sneak away. Mallory called and sounded pissed so I thought it would be smart to not make him wait any longer. Thanks for letting me crash last night; it was really nice to get to see you again.I’ll see you at work,James

Send a 👫 and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship
i. They have an entire room in their flat which is basically a library because they each have so many books. They spent a day building shelving and getting it completely set up with the best chairs and beanbags. When they’re home, they’re likely curled up on one of the sofas in there because they’re so comfortable.
ii. Hitchcock marathons are a thing. They usually only get through one movie each night because they have other things to do (and early starts at work), but over a week or two will watch as many as they can. The first one lasted a month and they watched all of them chronologically.
iii. For special occasions (or, when possible) they set up puzzles for each other to solve. Whether it’s a word puzzle, follow the clues, jigsaw, codes -- they all lead to the final answer/present. It’s a tradition that when they can’t do, they each miss greatly.
iv. Eve falls asleep on his lap on the sofa all the time. She’s rather tactile and just likes resting on him, where she feels completely at ease and safe. There are a few movies she still has to watch the end of because all she saw was the inside of her eyelids - something Jamie loves to tease her about.

☢ five times my muse almost sends a nude, and the one time they do.

i. She had the photo, but they’d really only been together a month. They hadn’t exactly talked about where they stood on it. Deleting the photo, Eve sent him a cute text instead.
ii. Mid-conversation, Eve absent-mindedly attached the photo as proof, only, the wrong one. Finishing the message and realising, she deleted the entire thing and locked her phone. Hand over her eyes, Eve laughed as she realised how that could have ended. There was a big difference between a cool puzzle and her new lingerie.
iii. She wanted to show him, but knew he was working late. Instead, Eve showed up a few minutes after he got home -- said new lingerie hidden beneath her trench coat.
iv. For no real reason, Eve was having a really good day. And felt really good. Too bad she was in another country and Jamie was stuck in London. Taking the photo when she got out of the shower, she twiddled her thumbs over the send button; ultimately deciding to save it for another day.
v. Still lacking the courage to actually send him the photos, Eve figured she’d ask how he felt about it. Leaving a hard copy one in the page of his book, she was still wary of the hacking issues they’d faced recently.
vi. Their anniversary and Eve was rostered off. Heading out, she picked up a few things for that night, only knowing little bits because who was she to deny Jamie the right to create a puzzle? Something she too could do. A photo of her bra and panties, another of her garter belt, her stockings, her heels. Finally, all the pieces together -- on her.
