Leverage ep 1 has a really good hook and central conflict. The characters dont quite trust each other but clearly LIKE each other. They play off each other great. AND are all solid by themselves. Nate's moral dilemma is a perfect character intro.

Its also the least subtle show ive ever seen in my life. Like it knows how to do a twist. But it also knows how to yell character motives at the top of its lungs.

The pin ultamte scene where they all walk away and then pop back up in is obviously really effective and down right iconic.

It starts with Nate walking away first because he basically has the final decision on if they become an ACTUAL team. Then everyone else walking away after because clearly he just made the decision of "no" to the groupt they were all hinting at.

But then Alec specifically to be the first to turn around and start chatting at him bc hes the one thats been pushing it sense basically the start. Then Parker and then Eliot. Seemingly in order of how much theyre actually down for this.

But also Sophie NOT walking up to him instead circling around to be in HIS path seemingly having predicted this outcome and ultimately convincing him.

big fan of putting the leverage crew in situations. because normally they're the situation you know. not this time.

Reading through pride:if now. And ok yeah i get why its "pride" if. Its "what if rezero WAS badass power fantasy fanfic." Its not at all trying to be a professional work. Sure it has something to say in contrast with "main" or "cannon" route rezero. But that doesnt change the fact its primarily about male power fantasium.

Subaru dehumanizing people so much he decides he wont strangle people bc its gross. Then immediately snapping corpes' necks.

His hate "marriage" with Elsa. Where they keep working with each other and she revels in the mutual distain.

HIM being the one to stop Regulus and it involving killing all his "wives". Subaru thinking "even he feels guilty" about this but doing it anyway. And then burning Regulus alive bc he deserves some sort of punishing for what hes done. As if Subaru has any right to be the one to deside that punishment. Vs main route where Emilia SAVES all the woman.

Him killing Julius to try and stop Anastasia's raise in popularity as if it wouldn't make more sense to kill the actual contender feels kinda like its trying to say something on misogyny. But maybe not?

The fact we only reslly see successful attempts even though it's clear hes looping more then main route. "Pride". Subaru isn't allowed to be "uncool" in this work bc it would undermine the power fantasy. The "pride". The male pride of anyone projecting onto subaru.

Watching AvA 13 rn and Hacker making "clones" of thenseld is soooo. Like thats a VICTIM ability. Not necessarily in the fact Victim could just spawn multiple of themself. But in the way it seemed all Victim in the original AvAs were potentially a hivemind.

^ calling era of japanese schooling pressure free is crazy work. But it's really interesting in how it frames how we're supposed to view subaru.

Especially when just after comes THIS discription of him

"Or in more detailed terms, “A piece of trash who disregards everything, even his parents, to shut himself in his shell even with his entrance exams right around the corner.”"

This of course brings into question the perspective of the narrators views. is it respective of subarus view of himself? Society's veiw of him? Is it meant to be read as objective fact?

And what does "There was no particular reason for his solitude" mean? I fond it hard to believe someone drops out and shuts-in for NO reason. Even a petty reason is a reason.

This is all to say this early description of Subaru is VERY interesting when capared to what one learns later. It paints him as acharacter lacking depth seemingly on purpose. This, if intentional, is a very bold maneuver. A decision inline with much of re:zero's writing but bold none the less.

Watching blackrose play "Amanda The Adventurer" and im on 2 part 1. I can't help but wonder if which characters are black is always intentional.

Cause obviously we have Amanda. (probably Rebecca) But even if the isn't literally her is BASED off her.

Rebecca and her Dad.

And now the only woman on the tape who ACTUALLY seems to want to do anything, to risk anything, to help Amanda (probably rebecca). Most other characters HAVENT been.
