“Why did you do it? Tell me.” Frenchy/Jan
Jan grimaced and hid her face behind her fingers. “I don’t know. I don’t know!” She peeked out just enough to see her friend. “I never really gave the rest of the T-Birds a good long look ‘cause there’s already too much drama between them and us Pink Ladies but… I dunno, French, maybe there was just something in the air.”
Jan lowered her hands to her lap and played with the pleats of her skirt.
“She’s a nice person, Putzie is, once you give her a chance. She got along pretty well with my mom, even… but, then again, Mom kinda takes a shine into anybody who wolfs down that much of her home cooking.”
Hesitantly, Jan lolled her head to the side to look Frenchy in the eye.
“I still can’t make a whole lotta sense out of it. I just know that it happened and it was kinda… nice. She takes things slow, like me, and that makes me feel more comfortable, ya know?”
Jan shrugged helplessly and sighed.
“I just hope Riz doesn’t get too mad at me. I mean, after everything with Dani and Sandy, it’s just been sorta feeling like there’s a line in the sand between the groups. I don’t want her thinking I’ve turned traitor or something.”
She reached for Frenchy’s hand and clasped it, her expression fretful.
“You’ve got a pretty good gut feeling for these things, French. Do you think it’ll be all right? Or am I getting in over my head here?”
