Headcanon 35: Chosen Family

Because Jane had such a small family of her own before marrying Thor, she certainly accepts certain people into her life as family. The father-daughter relationship between Erik and Jane is evident, as is her familial relationships with her husband's family.

However, she has come to love both Darcy and Janet as sisters, though her relationship with each of them is extremely different. 

Months before Bryn was born, Jane and Thor spent a large amount of time decorating the baby's room. Days after the baby was home, Jane made an addition, hanging pictures of these ladies in the room to make sure the baby always had her aunts in her sight.

Beyond that, Jane was well aware that if something ever happened to Bryn, Thor would raise her well, and as Jane wanted. She would be surrounded by strong and compassionate Asgardians like Sif and Idunn and Eir and held in the loving arms of Frigga. However, in that event, even though Jane didn't talk about it, she wouldn't want her daughter to forget Earth, and she knew that Darcy and Jan's presence in Bryn's life would always remind her of that - even as things are, with Jane alive and happy, she knew the other two women were always grounded in a way that Jane herself could never learn or teach her kids.

Headcanon 34: Scent

Jane smells like apples. This is because her mom used to wear 'Country Apple.' She doesn't remember as much of her mom as she'd like, but she adored how her mom smelled, and then Jane started wearing the same scent. Most women wear more floral perfumes, especially on Midgard, but not Jane. 

It is also appropriate considering Thor has gifted her with a golden apple.

Headcanon 33: Purple and Asgardian Fashion

Jane often wears purple, especially in her Asgardian attire. Initially, this was not deliberate - a deep, rich purple was always just a favorite color of hers, and one Darcy told her she looked really good in. 

However, Jane's preference is subconsciously rather relevant, considering her affinity for archaeology and ancient Rome in particular. The color came to be known as one worn only by royalty and political figures.

The symbolism is not relevant beyond Midgard, but she chooses now to consciously make it so. Jane strives to complement this symbolism along with other jewelry or tokens of Earth, never wishing to forget (or let others forget) that she also proudly represents the interests of Midgard.

Headcanon 32: She's Good at Cards

Jane Foster has a hidden talent: she's exceptionally good at poker - as well as other card games. Jane could make a lucrative living as a skilled advantage player (card counter) as she can easily retain statistics and other numerical information in large quantities. She's tested this skill in Atlantic City several times (and once in Vegas).

In her younger days, Jane used her skill at poker to get out of (...and into) a few sticky situations. In a pub in England, she used her skill to press an otherwise unwilling party into revealing the location of an artifact.

Alcohol does not seem to significantly interfere with her ability to count cards unless consumed in excessive amounts.

Headcanon 31: Romantic Love

Despite being a romantic by nature, Jane never actually intended to fall in love or set out to do so. Having only been in three serious relationships (including Thor), she took a 'we'll see where it goes' attitude.

Men tend to steer clear of her or absolutely adore her; there's little in between. Additionally:

She may or may not be the one to feel it first, but she isn't usually the one to say it first.

She did not fall in love with Thor the first time she met him, though he had seriously captivated her interest.

The first guy she was with had a ring but didn't propose; she was engaged briefly to the second guy; she married Thor.

Headcanon 30: Learning Process

Jane can easily record and recall facts and numbers. Sometimes her mind is rather occupied by complex concepts even though she is performing mundane tasks. Occasionally she has trouble focusing because of this, or doesn't realize how long she's been doing one thing or another. When she was younger, the psychologist initially thought this was related to a disorder (such as OCD) until he asked her whether she was cognizant of her behaviors and how.

She is also very good at simplifying things - such as explaining complex scientific concepts to students, non-scientists, and children through use of a distilled metaphysical approach and interdisciplinary relation.

Jane believes her interdisciplinary approach to expanding new ideas is related to her synesthesia. Sometimes she will 'feel' the answer to a question, see a song, or hear a color. The outcome is the notes in her journal, which include drawings, poems, pasted-in pictures, equations, and more. As a girl, she was taught to keep a project diary with her to help her organize her thoughts. She retains this habit.

Sometimes she thinks through something and sees the big picture and has to work backwards, which contradicts the methods she was taught and does consume a lot of time; she does not let it constrain her.

Her work and related thoughts take a lot of energy to organize. As a result, she's sometimes messy when she's studying, with papers and bowls of food everywhere until she comes to some sort of conclusion - or until someone stops her.

Jane has written two bucket lists in her life. RP for her first bucket list is still under way, so I have not crossed off items even though she obviously learns how to cook and accomplishes other things on the list (per assumption. RP, and MCU canon).

Headcanon 26: Treasured Possessions

As previously mentioned, Jane is a rather nostalgic individual. Time is just as essential to her job as space.

She treasures a number of special items:

A snow globe that her grandfather gave to her grandmother. This was passed down to Jane through her mom, Lucy. 

A red baby blanket. Jane once had the opportunity to see 'a future child' and she got to have him for a day. Once the 'spell' was up and the child gone, she kept the blanket. Thor didn't like the spell at all, knowing they'd have to give the baby up, but Jane has carefully hidden the blanket and hopes to one again have a son and name him Dean, for her father.

Her father's watch and gloves.* Jane owns several scientific watches, but most often wears her father's. She likes to wear his gloves, too, and it's her favorite thing about winter.

First piece of Asgardian clothing. Thor gifted Jane with a beautiful blue indoor cape covered in a field of stars. 

Small box of ancient treasures. Jane had the opportunity to go on a few archaeological digs throughout college. She retains some small treasures - nothing of major significance, but a couple of coins and rings. Some of the items in the box came from her dad's journeys as well.

First telescope. Her father gave her a telescope when she was just seven. Though she rarely uses it anymore, she takes it out for the nostalgia and to properly maintain it.

Second telescope. Once Jane was in college, Erik helped her purchase another telescope. It fit in a large case and whenever she traveled, she kept it in the trunk of her car. Thor once stepped on it and she got a bit defensive, explaining that it had to do with a very important memory and past lover. She now has a higher-grade telescope at home, but occasionally uses this one from time to time, especially at the beginning of the summer semester.

Baby shoes. Only Thor really understands why, but she keeps a pair of baby shoes mixed in with the Christmas tree decorations.

She treasures other more obvious items, such as the tiara given to her by Odin, her wedding and engagement rings, the 'universe dress' that Thor gave her, and the various gifts he has given her.

Additionally, we know that she also values her hand-built equipment and journal.*
