🤔 Repost @artofliamalxndr by @media.repost: Janet Jackson - Control Comic Cover Project • • I’ve probably mentioned this several times before but Janet was my first love/obsession/idol. The first album I owned was ‘janet.’, my first concert was ‘The Velvet Rope’ tour and my favourite album of all time is ‘The Velvet Rope’. That 4 album run from ‘Control’ to ‘The Velvet Rope’ is one of the greatest runs of any artist (imo). • • It was always inevitable that I’d do Janet as part of this project and I’ve been planning them for a long time. I decided to start at ‘Control’ as this is clearly where her career as one of the biggest musical icons ever began. I might circle back around and do the first 2 as prequels one day but for now it will just be the 9 albums from ‘Control’ to ‘Unbreakable’. • • I was only 1 when ‘Control’ was released so I don’t have any memories of when it came out. I love the 8 to 10 track albums of this era where every song is a banger. 7 iconic singles from a 9 track album with 6 iconic videos is unheard of now. I’ve seen a lot of people hate on ‘You Can Be Mine’ and ‘He Doesn’t Know I’m Alive’ and although they’re not as strong as the singles (that’s a high bar), I think they’re far from filler. • • I don’t think it can be stressed enough how masterful Jam and Lewis are as producers, musicians, writers. Their work with Janet always pushed the boundaries of pop music and they weave together numerous genres effortlessly in to some of the greatest pop music of all time. • • For this cover, I wanted to try and keep to the colour scheme of the album cover as much as possible. Most of the videos were set in the city, which made it an easy location to use and the yellow markings on the album sleeve reminded me of electricity so I think it came together quite well. • • As usual, there are references to each song on the album.
