Fluff Prompt #5 from this list with Jango Fett.
It was fairly quiet in the Kamino apartment tonight. Sure, the rain hit the windows with vicious thumps and lightning cracked through the sky, but that was nothing. Through the door into the bedroom lay Jango, with tiny Boba on his chest.
Jango ditched his linen shirt for skin-to-skin with the baby. Jango was like a furnace, his stomach would keep Boba warm along with Jango’s large hand that spanned the baby’s back.
Both boys were worn out. Boba inherited his father’s stubbornness but hasn’t been in the galaxy long enough to learn to control it. Jango had, though, but Boba seemed to put him to the test. Boba and Jango butted heads constantly, and you’re not sure how because the baby was only six months old. You’re sure it’s going to be hell when Boba became a teenager.
But now, as you climbed in bed beside Jango, they were getting along. Boba burbled when you came into his view and Jango smiled. “About time your buir joins us,” Jango smiles. “She works too hard sometimes.”
“You’re one to talk, Fett,” you respond, laying your head on Jango’s shoulder. You reached a finger out to Boba, who grasped it in his little fist. “He’s worn out,” you whisper to Jango.
Jango nods. “He should be. Screamed at me all evening.”
“You’re so good with him,” you whisper. “I know you worried about the kind of dad you’d be, but you’re the best buir a kid could ask for.” You smiled at the baby, and then added, “Seconded only by me, of course.”
Jango’s deep chuckle sounded through the room. “Right.” Boba started to fall asleep finally, and Jango gently maneuvered him into the bedside bassinet. Then, he pulled you into his chest. He smelled like Jango, but his chest faintly smelled of baby Bobo and the baby shampoo you’d used during his bath time. Jango’s breath was steady and his hands drew circles on the skin of your back.
“Took my shirt I see,” he comments. “What if I wanted it back when I put Boba to bed?
“Then I’d say too damn bad,” you say. “And to not just leave clothes laying everywhere.”
“My bad,” he concedes. You lay there for a moment like that. Quiet and peaceful and warm. All the things that Slave I wasn’t. Not that you didn’t love the ship, of course you did it was practically an extension of Jango, but Kamino was nice. Jango didn’t love it, neither did you, but it beat the cold of space and the incessant beeping of whatever needed fixing on the ship.
“Can we stay like this forever?” you murmur.
“Of course we can, mesh’la.”
“No I mean it,” you say. “Us three in this apartment. Our own corner of the galaxy.”
Jango takes a moment before he answers. “Sure,” he says softly. “I’d still have to leave, you know. And when Boba gets older he’ll have to see the galaxy.”
“I know,” you reply. “And I’d have to go with you. The two of you are so stubborn you’d need a mediator.”
“He’s going to be a nightmare of a teenager, won’t he?” Jango groans and you laugh. “Wouldn’t want to miss it for the world, though.”
“Me neither,” you agree, looking from your spot at the bassinet. “I love you Boba,” you whisper, and then, “I love you, Jango.”
“We love you, too, mesh’la.”
