Was prepared to be somewhat underwhelmed by the Hungarian National Gallery after the high artistic bar set by Vienna but it easily exceeded expectations. Particularly enjoyed some of the big, social-realist narrative paintings from the fin de siècle period. Mostly images and artists I’d never come across before; a real revelation. Also, some wonderful sculpture galleries AND blissful respite from the furnace-like conditions outside.
