On Saturday I became the terrified mother of a struggling juniper. Originally my ex-roommate bought the tree in December from Lowes (even though she is allergic to juniper) but let it suffer to the point of near-death alongside her other plants (some of which did not make it). I started watering my new child in May and eventually took it off her hands when I moved (although she had to tell me I could have it as long as I took care of it and she took the Buddha she wanted from the first photo). The juniper and I are getting a long so far, but I know nothing about maintaining a bonsai so any help would be appreciated. The first photo is from April and the second was taken on Saturday. Aside from being used commonly in the art of bonsai (盆栽), juniper is sometimes still used in Shintō ritual aside from sakaki. Trees are also a type of yorishiro for Kamisama as well.
