Jára Cimrman Thematic Research Collection

/the champion of blind alleys meets the interwebs en anglais/

Digital Liberal Arts with dr.Rafael Alvarado, the director of UVA's SHANTI (Science, Humanities & Arts Network of Technological Initiatives) was the an experience that introduced me not only to digital humanities, but also to programming, and all things web in general. 

We theorized that the form of curated research collection accompanying the scholarly texts as inspired by John Unsworth's thoughts is far more appropriate for this century than a simple linear essay. Thus, I appropriated the Wordpress platform to construct a fairly functional thematic research collection about Jára Cimrman.

Cimrman is a trademark and a legend of Czech humor. His status in Czech is beyond cult and beyond omnipresent, he's little known beyond the borders of the country. One reason probably is that the artefacts are not easy to translate, another one probably has to do with the fundamentally Czech nature of the humor (as I outline in the essay Sharing the Myth of Cimrmanology). Cimrman was even featured in the New York Times: Czechs' hero? The people's choice is a joke.
