AU - Jason Neville is a man with a shady past and he will do nearly anything for the right price, so he doesn’t think twice when Sebastian Monroe hires him to get close to his son, Connor, and end his engagement to one Charlie Matheson. Monroe doesn’t want his son finding out about his role in matters (out of fear of being hated), so Jason is told to finish the job in a way that can’t be traced back to Connor’s father. Jason begins searching for dirt on the couple as he befriends Connor to try to earn his trust and steer him away from his fiancé. At the same time, he also attempts to seduce Charlie, since he figures the easiest path is to convince her to cheat and make sure Connor finds out. What was supposed to be an easy job turns out more complicated than expected after he finds his way into bed with each of them, only to get drawn into their relationship instead of ending it.
He finds himself happier with them than he had ever expected, but in big trouble with Monroe. The man is furious, has plenty of money to hire more men to come after Jason, and at any moment he could reveal Jason’s original reason for entering Charlie and Connor’s lives.

Jarlett, awkward family dinners
Charlie stared down at her plate as she ran her fork through her mashed potatoes, creating lines in them and then smoothing them out again before starting over. They had been sitting in silence for what felt like an eternity and everyone seemed to be afraid to break it. Yet, this wasn’t even the worst dinner they’d had this week.
The silence bore on as Rachel downed the rest of her second glass of wine since they had sat down. Ben looked like he was searching for something to say that would ease the tension, but nothing seemed to come to him.
Charlie could feel eyes on her and was relieved when it was just Connor. Still, her own eyes shot immediately back to her plate. She was afraid if she even looked at them to long that the whole charade of a civil dinner would crack and, more than anything, she wanted to hold off her mother’s judgement and lectures until Connor and Jason were gone.
Danny was lucky he didn’t have to sit through this. Charlie had been counting on him to be there as her support system, but that had all fallen through when Heather Matthews had asked him over to her house at the same time and he had opted for spending dinner with the girl he had a crush on over running interference at their uncomfortable meet and greet dinner. She couldn’t blame him.
“This food is great, Mrs. Matheson,” Jason commented.
Charlie braced herself for whatever would come next. Sure, he’d had all the right intentions. But even if Jason had only been breaking the silence and trying to be polite, that didn’t change how Rachel hated to be called Mrs. Matheson and was looking for any reason to hate Charlie’s two boyfriends.
Charlie knew it wasn’t going to go well when her parents found out that she was dating two guys and she knew that it was going to go even worse when her mother had found out about a dinner they’d had with Connor and his father, then insisted that Charlie have them over so that she could meet the two men who she was probably convinced had completely brainwashed and ruined her daughter. Still, it couldn’t possibly go worse than the dinner with Jason’s parents had gone. Could it?
Rachel looked as if the words were being physically forced out of her as she insisted, “Please, call me Rachel.” The edge to her voice was so sharp, it could probably pierce through bulletproof glass.
As Rachel reached to pour herself yet another glass of wine, Connor commented, “Actually, if we’re having wine, I-”
Charlie dropped her fork to her plate with a loud clang that captured Connor’s attention enough for him to notice the death glare she was shooting his way.
Ben cleared his throat as he rose from the table, then reached towards the bottle. “You know what? Why don’t we just put the wine away? You’re not going to want any more. Are you, honey?”
Rachel nodded her head and let him take the bottle back to the kitchen, but it was clear that she was not impressed with her husband’s implication that she’d had enough to drink. No doubt, she had to keep up that pretense of being a perfect happy family though. Everything had to be in its place and right now Charlie was the one thing ruining that façade with her scandalous relationship. Charlie bet that her mother wasn’t even really concerned about her daughter being in an unconventional relationship, she was just concerned about other people finding out. Their family had a lot worse secrets than that, if you asked Charlie.
“Why don’t you try actually eating your food instead of just playing with it, Charlie?” Ben questioned with a warm smile as he walked back into the room.
At least he was making an effort. Charlie could tell the whole thing made him uncomfortable, but at least he seemed to be trying to understand it. At the very least he was tolerating it.
“I’m actually not that hungry,” she responded with a shrug, then looked pointedly at her mother. “I guess I just don’t have that big of an appetite.”
Charlie thought she saw the corner of her mother’s eye twitch ever so slightly at that and had to hold back the urge to smirk. It served her mother right for accusing her of having an excessive appetite and criticizing her for thinking the solution to that was dating two men instead of just one.
Much to her daughter’s surprise, Rachel shoved her chair back and responded, “I’ve lost my appetite too. Something’s making me quite sick.” With that, she exited the room and Ben quickly got up to follow her, only pausing to shoot an apologetic smile over his shoulder.
“I think that went well,” Connor commented in an amused tone.
Jason tended to disagree, but tried to convince Charlie otherwise anyways. He figured she could use something to make her feel better about how it had gone.
“At least we got through this dinner without any death threats.”
(I'm getting that list to 50, you see if I don't) Jarlett, no Blackout AU, Christmas at Disney
“Could we make it more than ten minutes without you pretending to be a prince?” Charlie questioned.
“It’s not my fault people keep assuming I’m supposed to be one,” Connor insisted.
“Maybe if you hadn’t worn a suit to Disneyland, six year olds wouldn’t keep thinking you’re Prince Charming,” Jason pointed out.
“I’m just naturally this charming,” Connor argued with a grin. “I can’t help it if people keep noticing.”
Charlie rolled her eyes, “You are enjoying this way too much.”

20: Talking about having kids
Charlie sits on the couch with a bucket of popcorn when Jason and Connor start talking about children. To her, it’s like watching a football game, except no one’s thrown a punch. Yet. Connor is roundly in favor of children. Lots of children. Jason wants nothing to do with them - he will happily babysit if he has to, and smile at family reunions when children are passed off to him, but he does not like them.
Both of them glare at Charlie when she chucks popcorn kernels at them. Charlie smiles beatificaly and goes back to watching them argue. It’s hilarious. And then they ask her opinion.
Charlie raises an eyebrow. “Only if we’re adopting these hypothetical children.“
Jason and Connor know enough by now to know that Charlie’s word is final in matters like this, and don’t argue.
