Jason Stiff: [...] With us here is Jhonen Vasquez, creator of the show.
Jhonen Vasquez: I am the creator.
Jason: The voice of Invader Zim himself, Richard Horvitz.
Richard Horvitz: Hi, how's everyone doing today?
Jason: Wally Wingert, [voice of] Tallest Red and others.
Wally Wingert: Howdy!
Jason: Andy Berman, voice of Gib.
Jason: I mean..
[laughter]
Jason: We've got Danielle Koenig and, uh, Rikki Simons. Say hello Danielle, to your [script] coordinator.
Danielle Koenig: Hello, Danielle!
Jhonen: I want to hear more about Gib. The unsung Gib.
Richard: I loved Gib!
Andy Berman: America hates Gib.
Jhonen: Gib was my favorite.
Richard, in Zim voice: I'll get you, Gib!
Jhonen: It's already fallen apart. The commentary's fallen apart.
Richard: Now, which character is that?
Jason: That is, uh, Dib.
Richard: Dib.
Jason: Which is, uh, played by Andy Berman.
Richard: What does he do?
Jason: He is, uh, the comic relief-
Richard: Mmm-hmm?
Jason: To your serious character.
Richard: Ah. And who's this one that's talking?
Jason: That is Gaz, played by Melissa Fahn.
Richard: And who's she?
Jason: She's your love interest.
Richard: Really?
Jason: No, no, not at all. That's not true. There is no love on... in the show.
Rikki Simons: Do you guys have flashbacks? Like when the scenes go by, like suddenly you remember exactly what you were doing when the scene was happening?
Richard Horvitz: No.
Jhonen Vasquez: I remember Richard choking on a peanut at this point.
Richard: Yes. [loud choking noises]
Jason Stiff: Hey, that's my peanut!
Jhonen: Now, Roman, what is your process for not having anything to do with this?
Jason: Would you have done so much exposition?
*laughter*
Roman: There's so much to say!
Jhonen: This episode! That's-That's what I remember hating about this! There's so much exposition!
Jason: But he mentions it, though, right? Isn't it this episode where he says how he's-?
Jhonen: No! No, no, no, that was like my only little note. See?
Dib: Wow, I'm boring!
Jhonen: That was the only thing I added, really, was that, "Wow, I'm boring." Because I thought it - that - I thought it made it funny!
Jhonen: It didn't, but...
*laughter*
Jhonen: Turns out I'm not funny, but-!
ZIM: Stay away from the power amplifier! It's sending out deadly waves of stupidness!
Jason: This is back when his voice was pitched really high.
Jhonen: Yeah, yeah. I remember watching this going, "Wait a minute!" And we didn't... Nobody seemed to really stop it.
Kevin Manthei: He was a little too higher than usual.
Jhonen: It was weird. It was- You know, it's weird. The actors would get used to the way their voices sounded pitched.
Jason: So they would start going for there.
Jhonen: So they'd start going for that pitch before we would even have any effect on it, and then we would go and throw the effect on it, and it became...
Jason: And we'd speed the show up.
Kevin Manthei: Oh, yeah. Well, the first few episodes and the music was- Because you sped it up after music and sound effects...
Jhonen: It was kind of uncomfortable. Because you're so used to what it's supposed to sound like.
Kevin Manthei: Yeah, I mean, cues that I had that were going at 140 beats per minute would suddenly be like 170 or, I dunno.
Jason: Yeah, Jhonen made us do that.
Jason: He said take 27 minutes of animation and turn it into 12.
Jhonen: Yeah! Cram it down into five minutes.
Jason: Ooh, hello. This is George Takei, welcoming you to "The Nightmare Begins." With us here is Jhonen Vasquez, creator of the show.
Jhonen: I am creator.
Jason: The voice of Invader ZIM himself, Richard Horvitz.
Richard: *Harold voice* Hi, how's everyone doing today?
Jason: Wally Wingert, voice of Tallest RED and others.
Wally: Howdy!
Jason: Andy Berman, voice of Gib.
Jason: I mean...
*Uproarious laughter*
Jason: We've got Danielle Koenig and, uh, Rikki Simons. Say hello Danielle, to your coordinator.
Danielle: Hello, Danielle!
Jhonen: I want to hear more about Gib. The unsung Gib.
Richard: I loved Gib!
Andy: America hates Gib.
Jhonen: Gib was my favorite.
Richard: I'll get you, Gib!
Jhonen: It's already fallen apart. The commentary's fallen apart.
Jason: Do it for the Gibber!
Jhonen: Someone actually recently yelled at me for, they said, singlehandedly ruining the English language for - the word doom for everyone. I'm actually sick of it, too. Hearing people say doom all the time.
Roman: All the time.
Jhonen: Doom this, doom that. I just thought it was a word that was funny. At the time.
Jason: Much like poop!
Jhonen: Oh, well!
Roman: Yeah, way to go, slick.
Jason: Yeah, now we can't like mooses, pigs, or doom.
Jhonen: Yeah, I can't - Nothing's funny anymore. Doom, monkeys, pigs, bunnies...
