You Read What?!
Characters: Bruce, Dick, Jason
Warning: reader embarrassing themselves, slight swearing
Synopsis: Your husband is well educated, he’s like your walking encyclopedia you can ask him anything. You pride yourself on your intelligence also but you have a small dirty secret…you enjoy cheesy erotic romance novels. What happens when he finds out?
Bruce W.
Bruce has finally convinced you to move all of your things to the Wayne manor. You two were married but you still owned an apartment in downtown Gotham and stayed there over night when you worked. But he wanted you under his roof, you were Mrs. Wayne now, what kind of husband would he be if he let you stay in the city all alone? So now him and his kids were happily helping you move in.
“Hey mom! Where do you want this box it says…” Dick spun the box around looking for bold sharpie letters “hair products.”
“Just put it in the bathroom please, thank you!”
“got it.”
You dropped the heavy box filled with your shoes on the bedroom floor with a huff. You need a break, you sat down on the edge of the bed wiping the thin layer of sweat from your forehead. You looked around the room taking it all in, you were finally moving in with Bruce. Even though you two have shared many moments in this room ranging from being silly, passionate moments, to just relaxing in each other’s arms.
You smiled yourself as you glided your palms against the bed spread. It’s finally starting to feel like home.
“Honey, I have your books. Would you like them in the library-“
“NO! Uh I- no I have a specific place for them, I have a bookshelf that Jason offered to put together for me” you smiled taking the box from him. You place the box on your side of the room tucked away in the corner. You went down stairs to retrieve the rest of your books with the help of Cass.
Later on that day you found yourself setting up your vanity area, you were almost done when you noticed you were missing a box. You left the room venturing back into the bedroom when you found Bruce hunched over something.
“Love I’m missing a box of- Bruce?”
“hm?” He was obviously distracted by whatever had his attention. You walk over to see what had him so focused. You peer over his shoulder to see one of your box’s containing your books wide open and in his hand held an annotated version of a dark romance novel.
Your stomach dropped. Your only instinct was to snatch the book out of his hand.
The silence was deafening between you two. Three years of dating and five months of marriage you manage to keep your dirty little secret, now that it was out in the open you didn’t know how to feel.
“Bruce listen I- it’s not as bad as it seems it’s just more like a guilty pleasure. I promise you it’s not weird it’s actual very liberating, a lot of women are reading more erotic novels taking control of their sexuality. Given how the patriarchy is set up shaming women for even having the tiniest feeling of wanting intimacy, it feels nice to be able to read it without feeling…guilty.”
It was like your ramble fell onto deaf ears, Bruce expression was unreadable. Your cheeks and neck burned with embarrassment.
“Bruce-“
“Your books are very…detailed.” You swallowed as your embarrassment increased.
“Listen-“
“I’m not upset, I just wished you felt comfortable enough to share this side of yourself with me. i thought we agreed to no secrets” He almost looked a bit sad.
“I’m in no way rushing you but whenever feel comfortable enough to discuss or even…try these things let me know.” His cheeks grew red along with the tips of his ears.
Your eyes grew wide and the pit of your stomach erupted with butterflies at the thought of Bruce experimenting and trying anything you asked.
“You’re not…turned off or disgusted by this?”
He let out a low chuckle, “far from it. Actually I’m intrigued.” He slid the book from your hand tossing it on the bed. He grabbed you by the waist pulling you between his legs.
“I seen your notes and the things you’ve highlighted, very interesting. I wouldn’t mind testing some of things you seem to e interested in. Especially the limo scene-“
“BRUCE!”
He chuckled pulling you impossibly closer.
“Don’t ever feel ashamed about any of your interest or hobbies I’m open to anything as long as it’s with you.” You grinned down at him cupping his cheeks in your hands.
“Have I ever told you I love you?” He smiled.
“Yes but I wouldn’t mind hearing it again.”
“Well Mr. Wayne I love you.”
He smiled sliding his hands dangerously lower “I love you too Mrs. Wayne.”
Jason T.
Jason had a plethora of books in your shared home and now with the addition of your books he had to build a library for the both of you. Mainly you because you kept adding to your collection while Jason likes to keep his select few and reread them with a new perspective.
Normally you can sneak few of your spicy books in between the others ones without him noticing and that’s what you planned to do today.
So while Jason was at his fathers doing gods no what, you went to the bookstore to pick up few books listed in your TBR. You arrived back home and absentmindedly laid the bag on the kitchen counter, you wanted to decompress with a nice shower, then tea along with one of your new books.
Unbeknownst to you while you were taking a hot shower Jason was snooping through your new book purchases.
Jason hadn’t meant to snoop. The bag was just there and he figured you wouldn’t mind. You two trade books all the time so whats the big deal.
Half open on the kitchen counter like you had dropped it in a hurry. He assumed you’d come back from the bookstore with another stack of novels. It wasn’t unusual. Between the two of you the house had turned into something that looked suspiciously like a small library.
Still, curiosity won.
Jason pulled one of the books from the bag. The cover was simple enough soft colors, a quiet landscape, a couple standing near the edge of a lake. Nothing unusual.
He flipped it over and skimmed the summary.
“Hm.” Romance. Not surprising. You read those all the time. Jason opened the book, leaning back against the counter as his eyes skimmed the first page. The writing wasn’t bad either. He turned another page, then another, absentmindedly reading. A few paragraphs later his brow slowly furrowed.
He paused. Jason reread the line.
“…Oh.” His eyes moved down the page again. Then back up. The corner of his mouth twitched with a smirk.
“Well that escalated quickly.” Jason glanced toward the stairs instinctively, as if you might suddenly appear and catch him mid-sentence. The house was quiet though. The faint sound of music upstairs told him you were still in the shower.
He looked back down at the book…for research purposes, obviously. Jason continued and turned the page. By the time you finally came downstairs, silk robe wrapped loosely around you and hair a little wet from the shower, you froze the moment you saw him.
Jason sat at the kitchen counter with your new book open in his hands. He didn’t look up right away, eyes scanning the page with surprising focus.
Your stomach dropped.
“Jason?”
He hummed absently. You took a careful step forward. “Why do you have that?”
Now he looked up. There was a very specific kind of amusement in his expression, the kind that was trouble.
“Couple questions,” he said calmly, marking the page with his finger. “How long have you been reading these?”
Your face immediately heated.
“Jason give me that.” You hurried forward, reaching for the book. He leaned back in his chair like he’d expected that exact reaction. With an easy movement he lifted the book out of your reach.
“Ah, ah.” His lips twitched. “Not so fast.”
You glared up at him, trying to snatch it again. Jason simply raised his arm higher, long enough that even standing on your toes barely got you close.
“Jason Peter fuckin’ Todd!”
He flipped the page. Your heart nearly stopped.
“Oh- oh this is good,” he murmured.
“Don’t you dare—” Jason cleared his throat dramatically and began reading.
“His hand slid down the curve of her waist—”
“Jason!”You jumped again for the book, grabbing at his wrist, but he just laughed and lifted it higher.
“—pulling her closer until there was barely space left between them.” Your hands flew up to cover your face. You felt like you could cry from embarrassment.
“Stop reading it!”Jason’s shoulders shook with laughter.
“What?” he said innocently. “It’s well written.”
You groaned, trying to climb onto the chair beside him to reach it. The second you did, Jason leaned away again, arm stretched above his head like he was dangling a toy.
“Give it back!”
“Nope.”
“Jason please!” He glanced down at you with open amusement before looking back at the page.
“Oh wow,” he said. Your stomach dropped and he slowly raised an eyebrow.
“You’re reading the spicy parts in the kitchen now?” he asked. “Bold choice.”
You lunged for the book again and this time managed to grab the bottom edge. Jason laughed, holding it firm while you tugged at it like a tug-of-war rope.
“Relax,” he said. “I’m just trying to understand the plot.”
“There is no plot!” you snapped. He smirked.
“That explains a lot.” Jason glanced back down at the page and read again, voice smooth and deliberately slow.
“She gasped softly as his lips brushed against the sensitive skin of her—”
“JASON!” You slapped a hand over the book. Jason looked entirely too pleased with himself. You still had one hand clamped over the book while he held the other end, the two of you frozen in a ridiculous stalemate.
“Jason,” you groaned. “Give. it. back.” He studied your mortified expression for another second before finally letting the book drop into your hands. You immediately hugged it to your chest like it was evidence in a crime scene.Jason leaned back in his chair, arms crossing casually.
“You know,” he said, voice thoughtful, “for someone who tries very hard to hide these… you’re not great at it.”
Your head snapped up. “What?” He shrugged.
“I’ve known for a while.” Your brain short-circuited. You stared at him in complete disbelief.
“…You what?!”Jason gestured vaguely toward the direction of the library.
“You think I never noticed the same author appearing on our shelves five different times?” he said. “Or the way certain books mysteriously disappear whenever I walk into the room?”
You stared at him in horror. “You knew!?”
“Mhmm.”
“And you just—” you waved your hands helplessly, “—let me think I was being sneaky?!” Jason’s grin widened. “Watching you try to hide them was very entertaining.” You looked like you wanted the floor to swallow you whole. Jason reached forward, tapping the cover of the book you were clutching.
“Relax,” he said. “It’s not a crime to like what you like.”You narrowed your eyes suspiciously looking him up and down.
“You’re not… judging me?”
“Why would I?”Jason tilted his head slightly, studying you. He knows that one little simple move makes you weak.
“If anything,” he added, tone teasing again, “I’m a little impressed.”
You blinked dumb founded “…Impressed?”
“Yeah.” He leaned back again, completely at ease. “You read a lot of these.” Your face immediately heated again. Jason chuckled quietly before pushing the bag of books toward you.
“Next time,” he said, “you don’t have to hide them.”
You hesitated “…You promise you won’t read them again?” Jason’s expression turned dangerously amused.
“No promises.”You groaned, turning away from him and grabbing your tea as he laughed behind you.
And somewhere in the back of your mind, you were absolutely certain that later tonight Jason was going to quote another line from that book just to watch you panic.
Dick G.
You were having a nice self spa day funded by your handsome truly loving husband. You got a full body message, got a mani pedi, went shopping for some spring style scents and now you were back home comfortably cuddled reading next to your orange tabby and Haley.
You were indulged in an erotic romance and it was getting so good but your eyes were becoming so heavy.
Dick said he’d be home soon so you were trying to wait for him but your body was exhausted from the day you had, who knew self pampering could make you so sleepy.
Your eyes slowly shut you and your book dropped somewhere along the couch.
“Hey baby wake up, I’m home” your eyes fluttered open to dick moving you hair out of your face.
He giggled “Hey sleepy head, you had a good day?” You sat up groggy, “hi”
You stumbled off the couch with his help and he guided you to the bedroom.
“Have you showered?” You shook your head no, he scolded you and ran a bath for the both of you.
You leaned your head against his chest as you let the hot water relax your muscles, you always felt so warm and safe in his arms.
“So…” he began as he kneaded circles into your thighs, “I saw that you fell asleep reading.” You nodded without thinking too much of it. “Yes I was trying to wait for you but I dozed off.”
He hummed, “well I noticed something peculiar about the place you stopped at.”
For a second your brain wasn’t registering what he was implying, then it clicked.
Your body went stiff and you were fully awake and alert now.
“You did…?”
“Yup” You slowly turned your head to look up at him, your expression somewhere between horror and disbelief. “How much did you read?”
He pretended to think, tilting his head. “Enough.” Your hands immediately came up to cover your face. “Oh my God.”
He chuckled softly, clearly enjoying this way too much. “I didn’t know you were into… this genre.”
“Don’t say it like that,” you mumbled into your hands.
“Like what?” he teased, fingers still tracing slow, absent circles against your skin.
“Erotic romance?” You groaned. “Please.”
“What?” he smiled, completely unbothered. “It was… very descriptive.”
You sank deeper into the water, wishing you could disappear. “You weren’t supposed to read that.”
“Your fault you left it open.”
“That doesn’t mean you had to keep going.” He leaned his chin lightly against your shoulder, voice dropping just a little. “Curiosity got the best of me.”
You peeked at him, narrowing your eyes slightly. “You’re enjoying this way too much.”
“Maybe,” he admitted easily. There was a pause, the water softly shifting around you as his hands slowed, then stilled for a moment.
“I learned something though.” You sighed. “Of course you did.”
“You have a very active imagination.” Your jaw dropped slightly. “Okay, now you’re just being annoying.”
“Mmm no I’m being observant.” You huffed, splashing him with water. “It’s just a book. People read them all the time.”
“I’m not judging you.” You raised a brow. “You’re definitely judging me.”
He shook his head, expression softening. “I’m not.” His thumb brushed along your arm, slower now, more deliberate. “If anything, I think it’s… interesting.”
You blinked. “Interesting?”
“Mhm.”
No you were overly suspicious. “…why?”
He didn’t answer right away. Typical Dick behavior. Instead, his eyes dipped briefly, subtly like he was reminiscing on something.
Then he looked back at you. “Because now I know what you like.”
Your face heated instantly and your body felt weird, you didn’t know what to do with your hands. You hated he always had this effect on you.
“You do not—”
“I have a general idea,” he corrected smoothly.
You pushed lightly at his chest. “You read like two pages.”
“And they were very informative.” You groaned again, dropping your head against his shoulder. “I’m never leaving my books around you again.”
He laughed, low and warm against your ear. “That seems a bit extreme.” You lifted your head, giving him a look. “You’re not allowed to bring this up again.”
He didn’t answer which immediately made your stomach flip.
“…you’re going to bring it up again, aren’t you?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“Dick.” He smiled— that damn smile, the one that always meant he was about to say something he absolutely should not.
“I just think,” he started, his hands started gliding down your thighs, fingers lingering a second longer than needed, “if you enjoy reading about something…”
Your eyes narrowed slightly. “Don’t.”
“…you shouldn’t settle for imagining it.” He held your gaze, calm as ever but there was something deeper in his expression now. Intent. Focused.
“You should experience it.” Your breath caught, ever so slightly.
“You’re— you’re ridiculous,” you muttered, but it came out weaker than you meant it to. A small, knowing smile tugged at his lips as his hand slid up your arm, slow, unhurried.
“You read all of that,” he continued quietly, “and didn’t think to tell me?”
You swallowed. “It’s not like that—”
“You don’t have to hide things from me,” he said, softer this time but somehow that made it worse. “Especially not things like that.”
You hesitated, your embarrassment started to twist into something else entirely.
Silence stretched between you thick, charged. Then you blinked, trying to regain some control. “So what, I’m just… banned from reading now?”
He huffed a quiet laugh.
“No.” His thumb brushed along your jaw, slow, thoughtful.
“Just don’t be surprised if I start taking notes.” Your eyes widened slightly and you turned around making the water slosh around. “Dick!”
“And if I decide,” he added, a little smug now, “that I’d rather show you than let you read about it…”
Your chest bloomed with embarrassment. “You’re impossible.”
“And you’re still smiling.”
“Am not.”
“Are too.”
