Jason felt his heart melt at hearing that she’d had a nightmare. He gathered up his papers in a neat pile and made sure nothing was sticking out of folders so she couldn’t read them. “Of course,” he patted the place next to him on the couch.

"I won't," she giggled as she crawled into his lap and half lied down," thank you, daddy," she told him before holding on tight to her teddy bear and turning to the tv.

Jason smiled at her and brushed a little hair out of her face once she got comfortable. “It’s what daddy’s do,” he replied with a light chuckle to himself. He loved his little family. He’d take it over his old life any day. It was peaceful.

Candace looked up at him when he replied and smiled when he did and even giggled at the snap," okay, daddy," she replied and kissed his check," can we see if Sofia or Doc McStuffins is on?"

“Sure we can. Not for too long though and don’t tell your mom. It’s way passed your bedtime,” Jason winked at her. It took him a second to find the remote, but he turned it on as soon as he did, making sure the volume was low. He flipped through the channels, looking for her shows. A news report briefly caught his eye, mainly the headline. He made a note to check it out online later and kept going. Finally he found Doc McStuffins and settled back in to relax with his daughter.

She looked down and fiddled with the bottom of her nightgown," are monsters real?" She asked still looking down. ((There you go))

Oh boy… if they were any other family, that question would be easy to answer. But Jason knew so much more than anyone normal. Still… she was so young and he wasn’t going to give her a reason to have trouble sleeping at night. It’s a conversation for another time. “No Candace… but you know, even if they did that your old dad here can take care of them easily. Like snapping my fingers,” he actually snapped for affect, giving her a confident grin.

Candace smiled as she curled up with her father and listened to the story, she knew the parts he made up wasn't real only because of her mother, but she would never tell him that she knew that," daddy?" She questioned after a moment of the story ending.

Jason smiled down at her, his eyes still shining from the story. He really did love it. “Yes sweetheart?” He nodded, wondering what was on her mind now.
