it’s 2020, we’re in quarantine, there’s a Merlin resurgence, and all this serves as a reminder of the literal wars I went to in this fandom to defend Queen Guinevere from the horrific racism and misogyny abusively hurled her way for just existing, when this show was airing. I’m still blocked by numerous BBC Merlin, blogs, I’m sure, and I’m proud of it, because I’ll still gladly fight for Gwen over and over and over. It’s like, I can truly appreciate all the photos Dale McCready released and thoroughly enjoy and embrace the nostalgia that comes with being reminded of a show that I loved and still love, while still being pretty infuriated by my experience in that fandom as a Gwen fan.

Do you think the girl’s amnesia is something physical/permanent or the result of some sort of mental block in their head? like did something big happen and it’s trauma-based memory loss, or did an antagonist put like, a wall up in their brains to block their memories?

From what we know so far, Setsuna’s amnesia is caused by the butterfly yokai who “stole her sleep”, and Moroha says that they need to capture the yokai so that Setsuna can sleep again. I do think it’s just a magical curse and once Setsuna can sleep again, she will probably regain her memories of her childhood. I also think Setsuna’s sleep might have been stolen to keep Rin “asleep” in the sacred tree, since we also see the butterfly yokai in the scene where Treekyo. But I’m not sure why or how yet!
