I LOVE the ocean. I grew up next to the ocean and whenever I go now I feel like I’m home. Every internet friend I’ve had has had to put up with me going on and on about the ocean.
I did earth and environmental science in my final two years of school and in that time we studied tectonic plates (which play a lot of roles in how the surface of the ocean looks and leads to tsunamis) and marine life at great depths. I found it so fascinating (the study of oceanography), especially the animals and life at the great depths of the ocean.
The ocean is so important to our survival and no environmental science or management can be complete without studying the ocean and taking into account how important it is for clean air and biodiversity. I do environmental management now as a a degree.
I actually applied for a marine science degree as my second option on my University application and got in. I didn’t accept it and studied arts and science instead. No regrets on my choice of degree now but the beach and oceanography will always be one of my loves.
ocean lovers are coming together and this is just so amazing! You have a new internet friend to talk about the ocean now!
I always wanted to study marine biology or oceanography but oceanography’s degree doesn’t exist in my country and I was so pissed 😤 I changed my mind last year and now I’m going to study literature (radical change) but my love for marine biology remains. I was always so fascinated by the ocean. It calms me down and I go to the beach every day, I live in front of the beach so it’s pretty cool.
I joined a volunteer group to clean the beaches once in a while because I agree with you: the ocean is so important to our survival. Also we are starting a new volunteer organization in my town to take some measures about the pollution here. We are a small community and we live from what the ocean gives us (this sounds extreme but it’s true). The tourism, the restaurants, the surf competitions, it’s all about that.
The ocean is my life and it will always be and it’s good to know that you feel the same way! I want to share this love with my kids like my family shared with me. I can’t live in a place without a beach.
Oh and a fun fact! : The world Guiness record for the biggest wave ever surfed was here in my beach - which I think it’s awesome
