The story is rlly good! I really enjoy it, i was just wondering the gender and pronouns of the characters mentioned so far. I noticed the whole bit about Mars and Jia in the bathrooms and i was curious about the concept of gender in the story!

In the world of Project Nought, it’s more typical to default someone’s pronouns to They/them until otherwise specified. (Which is why Ren has been referred to as ‘them’ from strangers a couple of times, despite him being cis.)
MOST public bathrooms are also gender neutral, hence Mars’ amazement at seeing a ladies bathroom. (There are gendered bathrooms as an option for the subjects, due to cultural reasons, but they also have the option for neutral bathrooms.) Characters pronouns:
Ren: He
Mars: He
Jia: She/They
Tāne: He/They
Foster: He
Phoebe: She

Novelty was finely focused on the rushing of water around their fingers and ears while they swam back-crawl to the other end of the pond. They knew approximately how many laps away they were from the edge, and they werecounting silently every time they raised their arms. When they were close, Novelty turned around and started wading out of the pond and walking towards the picnic table where their friends were waiting. They couldn’t wait for some cold juice and a sandwich.
