Why Kickstarter? Why now!
It's been a long time since I met Martin Dunn. We met at Pariah Con in Lakeland in April 2012 arguing over which one of us was sold a table. The convention sold the same table to the both of us, charging us full price for half of a 6 foot table, We immediately got along with each other and once that horrendous comic convention was over we went out for Chinese food with the gang of Con Artist Entertainment. Which is a fancy way of saying a whole bunch of slobs went out to eat at the cheapest place we could fill our bellies! Adam, Jamie, Shawn, Martin and I got along great very quickly.
Martin shared with me a simple concept he was developing as a superhero comic book. He wanted to see the Teen Titans replace the Justice League of America as the next generation of heroes, but we both knew that DC Comics would never tell that story. Well, what if we did it ourselves? Creating our own versions of these heroes and doing it our way? But doing it Watchmen style?
Year and a half later, here we are. We've busted through at least 5 versions of that story, making it more plot driven, political, even creating a fictional backstory to it. The characters changed genders, changed origins, changed names until they were completely separate from their humble origins. We have created our own world, our own characters, and we a bringing them to life. We are now comic book creators.
Now we have something in common with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. With Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. C.C. Beck and Bill Parker. We've created our own characters because we felt it was the right thing to do. We did it for ourselves, not for a publisher.
Notice that Con Artist Entertainment is not in the publishing business. We would love to be picked up by an actual comic book publisher that knows what they are doing and how to best promote it. We simply create and develop ideas into product. Contact us if you want us to develop your idea into reality.
Why Kickstarter? because it's an honest way to generate the funds to take this project from concept to reality. Everything is very transparent on Kickstarter. We state who we are, what we want to do and how we need your help in getting there. There are some great incentives to donate and you can keep track of how well we are doing on it. There are updates that only those who backed the project will receive. All kind of different experiences that you can be a part of in this crazy voyage that I am on. You can even become a VIP in our story!
Printing books on demand and buying tables at comic conventions is an expensive proposition, no doubts about it. I am drawing this book for free because it's my passion. Martin writes the book for free because it's his passion. So, the kickstarter is truly an honest way to get this idea into your hands with no one in the way, nothing standing in between the idea and the reality of holding a book, a story, in your hands.
Why now? because the time is right. We have been world building, designing, coming up with plots and characters and motivations and all the insane little details that make up this little creation of ours. We can't keep it to ourselves any longer.
We are proud to present to you the World of Project: Overwatch.

God Bless America. We will never forget. Thank you and much respect to our police officers, firefighters and EMT personnel. Same to our men and women in the armed forces. I am blessed to count many of you as my family and friends. Be safe and thanks for all that you do.
