Am I supposed to hate Kitt because I think he is awesome. Just a little too innocent compared to Kai. He might be the oldest but he seems like he could be the youngest with the way he is.

Jax has me laughing and hoping he makes it throughout the books.

My first attempt at drawing Jax Shields, adopted brother of Kitt and Kai Azer, participant in the sixth Purging Trials, and the character that I instantly found the most interesting out of the entire Powerless cast.

I have managed to narrow my favourites from this series down to two (2) characters and I refuse to narrow them down further. Jax is one of the two and I thought that he would be less daunting to draw since my other favourite is noted to be very pretty and I want to do them justice.

He's noted in the books to be constantly outgrowing his clothes, and I gave him mismatched socks are because he mentions losing all his left socks in Fearless. Bro same

Selecting clothing colours was a struggle, I genuinely had no clue what to do. I rejected basically all of my first ideas.

I thought: "make his outfit mostly black, make him look perpetually dressed for a funeral because every time he blinks a family member dies" but then I ran into the issue of: "what if that makes him look too much like Kai, king of being drawn in all black (and looking edgy)"

I thought: "easy, base his colours on Cinderella, they're basically the same guy" but Cinderella's most recognizable colours are BLUE and SILVER and Paedyn's entire gimmick is being BLUE and SILVER so I was very reluctant to do that

My end result turned out very... purple? I'm not sure how I feel about it. Maybe I'll find something that fits better next time. Comment suggestions down below or however it is Tumblr works. How do YOU picture Jax?

One idea that I did want to commit to is to have most of his outfit be fairly dark, with the exception of one bright splash of colour on his chest. I'm basing all of Jax's adopted family members on different mustelids, and Jax is inspired by a marten. I wanted to imitate the distinct lightly-coloured chest fluff they have:

Martens tend to be shy, and they're very good swimmers. I bet Jax wishes his parents were better swimmers.

My headcanon is that post-Fearless, Jax books it out of Ilya and pursues a career in medicine, maybe he's a beloved pediatrician or something. He lives in Dor and visits Tando often because he's fond of a certain bakery there; he's that uncle that you only see on holidays and the occasional birthday. Would probably adopt kids someday, he'd make a good dad.
