☆ Rather Cold, Isn't It? — Jayce and Viktor x GN Reader during winter ☆
Genres: Fluff, Mild Angst || they/them pronouns for reader || Can be poly or separate, up to you || Warning for discussions of ableism and trauma
A/N: Eermm hi. Saw a lot of HC posts about Viktor and Jayce dealing with the cold, and I needed some ideas to post fics in-between opening requests soooo ya
──────.𖥔 ݁ ˖˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ──────
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Jayce hates the idea of you being cold. Seeing his mother nearly freeze to death in front of him left no small impact, he's always worried when temperatures start dropping too low to be safe. He'll always have a coat or warm place to stay to offer you
ᯓᡣ𐭩 If need be, he'll try to offer up his own coat to you, a bit persistently. Which might seem a bit counterproductive, and in truth, it is. But Jayce wants you to see how much he cares, and he completely misses thinking about himself at times trying to accomplish this
ᯓᡣ𐭩 He feels absolute safest if you two can sneak off to a warm little corner of your own somewhere. His room, his office, the lab, anywhere he can turn up the heat and carry a blanket to wrap you up in. He'll also keep his arms around you as much as possible, especially if he feels your hands turning ice cold.
ᯓᡣ𐭩 If you tell him it's a little much, he'll joke that he'd rather have you be a little too warm than ice cold. But in all seriousness, he'll try to dial it back. He doesn't wanna come off as overbearing, he just can't stand the idea of you ever feeling the way biting cold can fade to terrifying numbness. Either way he's gonna fret for you until it's warm again
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Viktor is moreso the one who tries to ignore the cold. Keyword tries. The drop in temperature often irritates his bad leg and back, which makes walking around the lab even more of a pain. Though, as you come to find out, Viktor's a little defensive towards offers of help. Not in an aggressive way, he's just occasionally very stubborn when anyone implies he can't handle himself
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Not that he hates help, absolutely not. He'd actually be glad to have someone even halfway understand him any day of the week. But he remembers far too many instances where Piltover residents offered help merely out of pity. They'd look at him like a frail bundle of glass shards, unable to do a thing himself. Or, when he did rarely want some assistance, they'd shy away from getting near him because he's a Zaunite
ᯓᡣ𐭩 Once you reassure him that your offers come from concern and not condescension, he eases up. It's not your fault, he reassures, but he hopes you can understand where he's coming from. He let's you start setting the area where he works to be warmer. If he's gonna refuse to step away from the desk, the least he can do is let you make sure he'll be comfortable there
ᯓᡣ𐭩 In those moments he's usually lulled into being more receptive to a break, both by the comfort from the warm environment and your presence. Eventually he gives in, putting aside his work for just a second to make sure you're warm as well. He'll 100% chastise you if you fuss over his health while ignoring your own
context. my pookie bear here sent me this at 3 am for them after binging knight x prince listener asmr and forgot to type in prince reader lmfao 🙏😔 ily pookie but get some damn sleep
keeping me informed in useless shit I see... I can barely pass chemistry in school but I can tell you about merfolk reproduction and the people closest to the monarch
also teeny tiny fic at the end (I couldn't help myself)
Crowns and Armor
Jayce and you grew up together in the castle. He was the son of your parents' "hand". Ximena Talis was the king and queen's closest advisor and head of the Small Council.
Outside of royal and diplomatic duties, Ximena and your parents were close friends, and they naturally left you and Jayce to play in the gardens while they had tea.
Jayce's responsibility was to become your advisor when you ruled, and he took it very seriously. You just wanted to live your life while you could before all the royal responsibilities started falling on you.
He was going to grow up to be the king's hand, just like his mother now. And you were growing up to be the king, like your father.
As you grew up and Jayce got into page training, you refused to let go of the childish whimsy that still clung to you.
Your time with your best friend started becoming more serious as the years passed. You watching him train to be a knight, him accompanying you to meet princes, princesses, lords, ladies, nobles, etcetera. But you were always joined at the hip.
If people ever questioned you on why you brought that page (lowest knight rank) with you everywhere you would shrug and say "He shall be my hand when I rule, should my closest friend and advisor not know me?"
By the time you were both in your late teens, your parents started introducing you to suitors. Other royals whose parents wanted to form allyships with your kingdom by marrying off their sons or daughters.
As always, Jayce was right beside you in their attempts at courting you. As a chaperone, but you wanted him there anyways. Those princes were so pretentious and the princesses were shallow.
So having your best friend with you was the only way you would agree to sit and listen to a snobby prince tell you about how all the ladies in his land fall at his feet.
After those meetings, you needed some time to clear your head, so you would go to the gardens and climb up a tree with Jayce and just sit in silence. Of course, after a while you would start to mock the prince's voice and he would try not to laugh because it's disrespectful but he'd break as you talked about his ugly mustache.
Jayce's room was close to yours as per your request since you were kids. But sometimes you would have secret sleepovers. You'd play dress up with your fancy clothes (until he hit a growth spurt). You'd sneak fruits and sweet treats out of the kitchen and pretend to have a tea party at midnight. You would tell each other secrets; who you liked, what whispers you heard in the halls of the palace.
Hug each other when there was thunder (he'd pretend to be brave but he was probably more scared than you despite being a year older).
You still did that now that you were older. You talked about your future, about the things you hated about being a prince, the ways he won sparring contests that day.
You realized you were in love with him long before you even thought about your coronation. He had no idea he even liked you that way until you were given your first crown.
(I made this part up. Princes only get actual crowns in their coronation after the reigning monarchs die but let's pretend in this made up kingdom that when princes/princesses come of age they are given a small and simple crown with the official title of "monarch in waiting")
It was your birthday! People were happy and proud of the prince they had raised in their kingdom, and the king that you would become. Jayce was specially excited about this, the day you became an adult and got a shiny crown. He woke up first thing in the morning to wake you up with your favorite dessert.
You, on the other hand, were nervous as hell. You knew how diplomacy works, you knew how to govern a kingdom, your parents had been teaching you everything since the day you learned to write and read. But that lingering doubt and anxiety was still eating away at the back of your brain.
Jayce comforted you, he knew well how nauseous this made you feel. He also made sure to tell you how much he believes in you and your competence and capacity for ruling.
The ceremony came. Jayce sat next to his mom with the rest of the council and he watched the way you wore those ceremonial clothes. The way you kneeled and repeated the oath to your kingdom as the new king in waiting.
He watched how serious but determined you looked, ready to become the kind and merciful king you were always meant to be. He felt something stir in his heart, and that's when he realized that he couldn't live without you.
As your mother, the queen, set the crown on your head and the people cheered. He knew why he could never stand those other royals trying to court you.
The ceremony ended and the celebration started. The palace was full of food stalls and people dancing around, probably already drunk only three hours after sundown.
Jayce lost sight of you after the banquet. He thought you would go right to the stall your favorite baker set up but you didn't.
He asked around for you but, since no one had seen you, he went to the place you always went to when you needed time and air.
You were sat on a branch of the tree you both used to climb as kids. You looked at the crown you held in your lap, he couldn't tell what you were feeling.
"What are you doing up there?" You snapped out of your thoughts when you heard his voice, then you looked down at the ground.
"I am... just thinking, Jayce." He smiled sympathetically and carefully climbed up the tree with you, sitting on the base of your branch, hoping it was strong enough.
"You can tell me anything, you know that right? I'm your best friend." He reached to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear.
"I know that... it's simply- now there is more pressure from the neighboring kingdoms to marry. My parents keep saying I should choose with my heart and take my time but I cannot help but notice that worry in their eyes." He pulled you closer to him and pet your hair.
"You... really don't like anybody, do you?" His chest hurt just a tinge when he said that. He could no longer deny his love for you after it dawned on him, not that he wanted to hide it. But you were still a prince, and he was just your advisor.
"That is exactly the problem-" You squeezed him in a hug. "I do love someone. But I cannot be with him..."
"Why not? You- you're so lovable! Have you even seen how many people want to court you?"
You groaned and pushed yourself away from his embrace. "I don't want them. They either like me for my power and my kingdom or for my looks. I want someone who truly knows me..."
"Who is it that you love?"
"It matters not... He does not love me that way."
"Who is it?" He whined out your name like a dog. "Please tell me." You rolled your eyes but sighed fondly. You took a slow, steadying breath and turned to look at him in the eyes.
"His name is Jayce Talis."
It turns out you were wrong. He does love you that way.
the air stilled, scented rich with magic. floorboards hard at your back, you shifted up onto your elbows. the ridges dug into your skin as you instantly looked to your side.
Jayce coughed. you snorted.
his hair was frazzled, his chest rising and falling slowly as he laid strewn like all of your papers—without a care in the world. if he didn't look like he'd faceplanted a sack of coal you would've believed it was a fair comparison.
dragging your safety goggles over your forehead rife with soot, you discarded them atop his stomach. or you aimed to. being knocked onto your ass clearly messed with your coordination as you accidentally clipped his chin with the buckle. he whined dramatically.
"sorry! that wasn't—"
"beating me while I'm down? what did I do to deserve this!"
you rolled your eyes amusedly. "my bad, Talis. thought you wanting your name plastered all over the research notes meant this was your experiment."
he groaned, head turning away from you.
"seems like you got proportional comeuppance, though."
"what's that supposed to mean?"
you giggled quietly, refraining from giving an answer.
your cloudy eyes waltzed across from him to the explosion of dust and soot that painted his side of the lab. what was left of his desk smoked and crackled with cerulean static. following the crux where the contraption had sat mere moments before, you found runes burnt into the flagstone and wood.
"well, there's some good news for us." you slumped back onto the floor beside him.
"really?" his smile was as bright as it always was, gap-toothed and endearing despite everything.
"the sun rune was definitely activated when that spell happened."
"brilliant! see?" he rapped his knuckles against the ground victoriously. "I told you breakthroughs can come from anywhere! they can take multitudes of forms, even the roughest of experiments can yield results...!"
he was so damn smug when he was right. you wanted to wipe his smirk off his lips, but all you would've gotten was more soot on you. at first it would be on your thumb, but it wouldn't take long for it to be on your lips instead.
"Jayce, it's burnt into the floor."
he was quiet for a moment. his gaze was intently on you, in fact it had barely left since you'd laid back down. you avoided the eye contact. soot tasted unpleasant. even if he was cute, was it truly worth it?
"I'm so glad I get to work with you."
your face crumpled. not even the slightest hint of sarcasm, or ingenuity. he always meant what he said, wholeheartedly.
you pouted at him, acceding. your hand found his discarded on the ground, burnt gloves making tough work of intertwining your fingers but you didn't care. "shush. you're making me sound mean."
"you're just practical. realistic. two entries on an endless list of things I love about you." as you broke his gaze, coming to stare back up at the ceiling with a scoff, he squeezed your hand.
and then you felt him shuffle clumsily closer. before you could snicker and call him a dork, his voice softened in your ear, "it's what makes you a brilliant inventor. and it also means if I do dumb things with you, you have to back me up, otherwise you look dumb, too."
you pursed your lips, playfully struggling to hold a smile back. "you're such a—"
"gorgeous, clever, profoundly amazing and loving boyfriend?" he propped himself up on one elbow effortlessly. "I know, honey, I know."
your head whipped to him in shock, a laugh falling from your open lips. you quipped, "an egotist!"
he simply shrugged, oozing confidence and swagger as if he didn't look like a cartoon struck by lightning. oh right, he didn't know.
the fork in the road settled before you. you could win this battle: snark him right back, and out of the corny consequence of his own miscalculations.
or you could lose on purpose.
"you still love me either way, don't y—oh!"
pulling by his untucked tie you yanked him down on top of you, melding your lips to his. you could feel his smile twitch into your kiss as he melted like butter in an instant.
freeing your hand from your glove, your callused hand traced along his hot cheeks to the nape of his neck until it settled on his jaw. he tilted into your palm, humming happily. putty in your hands, as always.
you ignored the dry taste of soot, and the traces of it gathering on your clean fingertips. it was without a second thought; he was undoubtedly worth it.
summary: Dating the best scientists of Piltover had its perks.
a/n: <3
Councilors of Piltover had their benefits. For one, they were at the highest upon highest tiers of the city’s hierarchy—albeit sharing the status with seven other individuals, they had command and often huge influence upon the city and its trends, and they were regarded with utmost respect, for the most part. Another perk, the newest councilor Jayce supposes, is that they have their own private suite.
Important, ground-breaking scientists of Piltover had their own benefits too. Though one took more spotlight than the other, Jayce and Viktor would say the benefits are: being able to work for the city and watch it thrive because of you (themselves), having projects and necessities fully funded, and getting to work on their passion, science.
Sometimes, being a simple lover had its benefits as well. For one, you got to spend time with the love of your life, pamper them without reason, all that.
Being great scientists’, and a councilor’s, lover had its benefits. It was almost as if you shared their benefits, even.
This obviously made you feel indebted to them, and try as they might to tell you it’s fine or that you deserve it or something along those lines, you decided you would make it up to them; somehow, someway. Just making breakfast was enough for them sometimes.
“Bright and early in the morning,” Jayce slumps against your back. “I don’t know how you do it.”
His voice is sluggish, a mere whisper into your ear, and so is his movement even as his arms wrap around your figure, “The motivation of having to feed two important scientists gets me out of the bed each morning.”
He snickers, “We’re important enough for that?”
“ ‘Course you are.”
“You have my thanks, then.” His lips find the shell of your ear, your cheek and the back of your neck, placing a kiss upon each supple area. Your back’s tucked into his broad chest, and though the hug may be one-sided, it feels nice all the same.
“As do you.”
You enjoy the moment for a time, before remembering your other lover, “Is the King still in bed getting his beauty sleep?” This King, of course, being Viktor.
“Yes.”
Or at least, he was. Perhaps it was pure coincidence, in fact it definitely was, it's just that you wanted to believe your words had summoned him.
Viktor comes round the corner with a yawn and a slight stretch. He looks much more well-kept in comparison to the two of you; Jayce’s shirt is quite crooked and he’s wearing those pj pants with the waistband that keeps falling, although he’s a big fan of these pants because of their comfiness nonetheless.
“Morning my,” He pauses, for a moment, as his eyes catch the sight of you, “...loves.” He’s not uncomfortable, of course he’s not, he’d just rather be… how does one phrase this? He was uncomfortable, yes, not because of you and Jayce’s hugging, but because he wasn’t in that hug, enjoying its warmth, enjoying its safety. He was only uncomfortable because he wasn’t feeling rather comfortable.
“Speak of the…” not devil, “King.” Jayce smiles. “Morning, my love.”
“Morning.” You chime in, still a little preoccupied with the food you’re preparing on the stove. Don’t want that to burn, especially since you’re feeding ‘Your Highnesses’. They’re like dogs with prescription diets to stick to—or that’s what they would say that you treated them like anyway.
Viktor finds himself a little cold, his body feeling in solitude. He curses it for feeling this way, since it’ll be no matter of time till Jayce makes a teasing comment about it.
Worst of all, he doesn’t get to wait long until it happens.
You’re turning off the stove and leaving the food for a moment to cool down –as much as Jayce would protest, you didn’t want him burning his tongue– and finally giving Viktor all the attention he needs (and doesn’t want at the moment). You turn yourself for it, inevitably bringing Jayce along with you.
“You look lonely.” You shoot Jayce a look, to which he merely laughs at.
Then both of your eyes fixate on him again. It’s a silly thing, shrinking under the gaze of his lovers despite being so used to their presence—to the point where it feels odd to not be around you, yet it happens all the same.
Slowly, you raise your arms.
“No, no.” He denies his insatiate need for affection, waving his hands along with it to emphasize his point. “I’m fine, really.” He wraps his arms around himself, trying to bring the warmth he knows only you (two) can bring.
Even as you continue to approach him, he denies and denies, “Seriously. It’s perfectly alright!”
It isn’t, though. He’s painfully aware of that.
Well, he doesn’t have to be for long, and it's a good thing this time. Soon, your arms find themselves around him. Two pairs of arms, nice and muscled and perfectly satiating, around his lanky body. Warmth, is all that’s in his mind; a nice warmth not even the comfiest of blankets could bring.
A warmth only you, his favorite lover—don’t tell the other one, and that councilor he calls a boyfriend, can bring. He’s content in it.
“Was it so hard to admit you wanted some love, loverboy?” Jayce whispers into his ear.
“Yes,” He can tell it’s not the answer he expects, “sometimes it is.”
“Was the witty answer really necessary?” Jayce asks, pulling back so that Viktor can see his disappointed look. He can’t be too angry at him though, not that he was in the first place. Who could get mad at Viktor? He was too pretty and lovely and cozy to be mad at. To be mad for him, though? That was perfectly justified.
You answer for Viktor, “Yes. It’s fun to get on your nerves, love.”
“Oh really?”
“Yes, really.”
He laughs, “Not even a ‘sometimes’ to add onto that?” You knew what he wanted you to say: ‘It’s fun to get on your nerves, sometimes. Most of the time I merely praise the very floor you stand on, I hope that’s enough for you, oh councilor.’ So you say the opposite.
“No.” If you could speak with heart drawings, Jayce thinks you would finish that sentence with a heart.
“Fine.” He rolls his eyes.
Viktor pulls you into a sweet, morning kiss. Jayce fake gags at it, but with your attention being on each other, neither of you see it. He sighs dramatically, fortunately forcing your attention on him “I have not had a morning kiss.”
Viktor huffs out of his nose and rolls his eyes, “Okay, okay.” He begins to lean forward, and as Jayce closes his eyes to enjoy the moment, he suddenly parts and the kiss never comes, “Wait, are those pancakes I smell?”
The councilor groans, which you both ignore, “Yeah, actually. Oh, those must be getting cold, huh?”

NSFW under the cut!
merman!Jayce headcanons (SFW)
Okay I won't go into detail about how you met so let's just say you met him at a beach when you both were kids.
You were swimming, you stumbled or got hurt and couldn't swim. He saved you and got you back on the beach safely. You came visit him often and blah blah blah all that cheesy AU stuff.
He's always been really extroverted and affectionate so you always have to be ready to get wet whenever you visit him.
He asks you so many questions about human life, cities and what having legs is like. Just as you ask him all about his life in the ocean.
Please bring him trinkets! He would be just like Ariel and collect stuff from humans for science.
If you bring him things he'll also bring you stuff! Not just boring things like seashells and whatever is in the ocean. He'll bring you the merfolk version of books, tell you about swimming with a fish half, tell you about their customs and traditions, their sports, their music... anything you ask, just as you tell him about your world.
You practically grew up together! His parents met yours and you all had little beach days together.
Eventually you and him grew up and your parents let you hang out on your own, either because they told the truth with "You young people find us old people annoying.", or because they were secretly trying to get you to fall in love with each other.
Either way, you fell in love. And your parents were so happy for you! You still had to sneak around a bit, not everyone in the beach was okay with your relationship. (Uh... something phobic idk)
So you meet at night most times, not because you're ashamed of your relationship, but because you would rather not have some bitch tell you about their personal opinion on what you should do with your own life.
He was very shy at first, you already hugged and were comfortable with your touches but it was different now that you were dating.
Merfolk don't really kiss (in my imagination). They intertwine their tails (again, in my head).
Since you don't have a tail, you'll just be swimming, he'll hold you up by the waist so you can both just float and you can breathe air and he'll wrap his tail around your legs.
He gets so giddy when you do that together, he's so happy he gets to show you he loves you the way his people show love.
He gets equally as happy when you kiss him. It was odd for him at first but he melts in the way you cup his face and press your lips to his.
merman!Jayce headcanons (NSFW)
Once you both started puberty. You asked each other questions about... well puberty. How merfolk's bodies worked, how human's bodies worked, what changed, etc.
Once you started dating and got... comfortable with each other, you started showing each other how your bodies work.
He probably got more scientific than sexy the first times but let him be.
(mythical anatomy lesson time because I did not spend thirty minutes investigating merman dicks just to not tell you about it)
Mermen's dicks are sheathed, like those of a dolphin. Kept in a little pouch that just looks like a slit on their belly.
Now, sharks have two "penises" (called claspers). So I gave merman Jayce two dicks because I also made him a shark... (I pray my mom never finds out about all the anatomy lessons I just took on sharks and dolphins and seahorses and mythical accounts of how merfolk were said to reproduce- GIRL it was so hard to find anything about merman dicks </3)
Both claspers are about the same size. And sharks only use one of them while reproducing to allow for better movement... With that being said- if you want both dicks at the same time, Jayce won't be opposed, if anything a little (very) flustered (and worried about hurting you).
Your first time having sex was definitely after a while of exploring and explaining each other's bodies.
One day, you were just cuddling (mid shark mating season). And now that you were both adults now, having reached sexual maturity and all that. He got a little horny.
See, merfolk still have this animalistic instinct to reproduce in certain seasons and, as I said, it was shark mating season.
You were in your swimming suit, late at night when there was no one left on the beach. And he was next to you, holding each other in the place where the waves met the land.
Everything was peaceful, it was a warm summer night, the world (at least your timezone) was asleep. It was just you and the love of your life.
Then, he twitched and gently grabbed your leg to press your knee against his slit. He let out a shaky breath.
"Uhm... Jayce?" "Mhmm~?" His voice was wavery, almost like he was on the verge of moaning.
"What are you- doing, exactly?" He burried his face into the crook of your neck and gently, hesitantly, rolled his hips to grind against your leg. He let out a quiet moan. "Nothing?"
You pushed him to lay on his back and pressed your hand to his slit where his two tips were starting to peek out.
"Nothing? Nothing at all?" He already looked absolutely ruined under your touch. "Maybe I'm just- a little worked up?" It was as if his whole tough guy personality had been replaced by a sea puppy. "I think it's mating season..." That explains it. You sigh fondly, kiss his cheek gently and start to slip out of your swimming suit.
