Free Online Public Library

Good evening fellow writers and bibliophiles!

I recently started curating a free online public library! It's limited in what's there at the moment but I'm working on adding to it as we speak. There's a welcome note, request sheet and comments form in the file-share. If you'd be at all interested, the link is below!

Which in hindsight is likely why I never completely finish projects but I write for the fun of it more than anything.

life by the sea

So I've been experimenting more with poetry, and wrote a Tanka about my summer trip to Wales:

Soft lull of the waves 

As the sun begins to rise... 

Could this be my peace? 

From six days and five nights, to  

A life by the ocean's side. 

For anyone curious about what a Tanka is, here's a description and the link: 'The tanka poem is a type of classical Japanese poetry. It’s perhaps not as well-known as its close cousin the haiku; however, it’s a beautiful form of writing and definitely worth exploring. The word “tanka” translates as “short poem” or “short song”, which gives you a good idea of its genre. It doesn’t have to rhyme, but its syllabic rules and structure are strict. These create a framework for clear, concise writing that has its own elegance and occasionally wit.' (source)

pep talk/reassurance/maybe someone... anyone... needs to see this:

The someone that needs to see this on a regular basis is me. But maybe you do too.

Art of any kind - whether it be painting, drawing, writing, acting, making music, filmmaking etc - is supposed to be fun. Power to you if you're able to make money from your craft, but at the end of the day, art is expression. It's an extension of your body and soul. We create because it's our passion. We create to release the feelings we don't know how to put into words (yes I realise this is ironic if you're any kind of writer). We create because - first and foremost - we WANT to. We need to. If I was unable to write I think I may just implode. If I was unable to create whole universes from the deepest crevices of my mind, I think I will have lost my whole reason for being.

Create for YOURSELF first. Create for others last.

It's always great when others enjoy your work too. But you should enjoy it first. You should enjoy the process AND the fruit.

of course the one day I have writing motivation during my lunch break is the day I forget to bring my messy notebook to work🤦🏼‍♀️
