Which, to everyone’s complete surprise, actually worked and the orc refused to fight this “member of the Horde” whose friends came to her prevent her death.

A Shock to the System

Was this worry?

It was, honestly, so hard to tell anymore. Everything she felt was so vague that it hardly registered at all. This wasn’t worry anymore. This was the numbness finally making its move and grabbing her at her worst. A flicker of dread swallowed up by apathy in seconds.

Ella paced back and forth among the crumpled papers and shattered glass. Why was there always shattered glass? Not the mirror this time, no. Just empty bottles of booze and worthless knickknacks that couldn’t even do their job right.

As the days passed, she began to fortify her walls. Nobody had heard from her besides maybe a quick update about the next gig before turning her radio off completely. During the day, the old house on the hill was eerily silent. It was after dark that the occasional ghostly tune could be heard just ever so faintly from the main road. She was working. No disturbances allowed.

Bangles remained at the back of her mind, merely a thought continuously buried in more and more distractions. Trying to salvage any ideas she could; they escaped so quickly. Brilliance--

--muddled by the lack of sleep, and the way that her mind slowed as the days went on.

On the outside, two days at the most, probably. In her frigid sanctum, time seemed like it’d ceased. Or maybe it was passing faster than she realized. She never looked outside to confirm anything. No mail. Obviously no calls. Did they matter? There was never any good news anymore. 

It’d been a mistake to try to settle things between the three. It was none of her business, so why did she even try? Kelanth and Jazpark were her friends--

--but she never should have tried to interfere. It never worked, anyway. Why even pretend to understand when she had no grasp on the situation at all? None of her business and a waste of her time. Their circle of melancholy was their own. Kelanth, Jazpark, and Bangles--

(ohpleaseohpleasebeokay)

--had their business, and she had hers. Lighting the field on fire had done nothing but given her a pointless fit of something she could just barely identify as ‘hope’. It died with the embers. 

‘I don’t have the time or the patience for this’.

“I’m not doing this for attention, you asshole! Wake up! WAKE UP!”

It was an act of desperation. A scatterbrained attempt to maybe shock the system. To throw in something unexpected  that’d knock them out of their fog and onto their feet. As it turned out, she couldn’t even fight her way out of her own.

And so Ella gave up. Discarded lyrics and other pieces lay scattered across the floor. She had a show to put on. If anything was worth the effort anymore, it was that.

Maybe it was only that.

Fitting with the new Avengers movie coming out, a bunch of us started brainstorming icly what we would be as superheroes...

Aimin is the guy next door who no one suspects. A sharpshooter with a talent for speaking to spiders. He is... Spidergob!

Jazpark is a mysterious man with a dark past who lurks in the shadows. He is... Jazdark!

Brek Diceroll is the blue, rough-edged anti-hero... Cobolt!

Kelanth is the good-natured, genuine hero... Captain Kel!

Pekee is our cool secretary who knows our secret base and funds our adventures. She keeps her real name but goes by the alias Kia Goldmine.

And Otis is the damsel we’re always rescuing.

And when we’re not out saving the world, we play in a band.
