What's your opinion on Vector lines, lines that you can move around and adjust after drawing? I'm an artist too, but I can't draw smooth lines at all, so I use it to get the lines I want. But I feel like I'm not actually improving by using it, or that I'm cheating.
first and foremost, to get it out of the way, theres no way to “cheat” art. you just cant. using the tools available around you to help you create isnt “cheating”, the whole purpose of art is simply creative expression, making something out of nothing with anything (and this applies to all forms of art: writing, music, sculpting, ect.). you physically cannot cheat something youve genuinely created, the only way to “cheat” is to just straight up steal from other artists. loads of people draw using vectors, and i mean loads. both professional and hobbyist alike. professional storyboard artists and animators that use either flash or storyboard pro/toonboom draw in vectors. theres a lot of profressional illustrators that use vectors to create entire pieces. theres a good chance that any kind of professional-grade logo youve seen was done using vectors. hell the curve and line tools in mspaint are technically vectors, very simplistic vectors but vectors nonetheless.
ive used vectors before in the past, mostly when i didnt have a tablet to work with granted, but i know my basics around illustrator, and if a program has the capability of using vectors and paths/guides, ive taught myself the basics of using those as well. most recently i was using vectors to help create the sprites i made for the dating sim, and i used a lot of guides to help me get through the comic a lot faster as well so that i didnt waste so much time tryin to freehand all those circles, chubby cheeks, and long hair. (long and specific curves especially are an absolute nightmare for me)
if you like using vectors to create your line work, then by all means, keep using vectors! theres no issue with it. if you want to improve upon your steadiness when it comes to freehand drawing then theres exercises you can practice! you can also work with stabilizers if the program your using has them to get a better feel of actually drawing the line(i drew with heavy stabilizers for years before i started moving to lower levels of it, and even now i still draw with a stabilizer, but i have far more confidence and can even manage for a while without it even though my traditional pen to paper work is still very shaky) it should also be stated tho that theres also a lot of people who “sketch” their line art using lots of short strokes to get the job done or they just straight up clean and refine the sketch they already had
theres lots of ways to draw line art, just like theres lots of ways to draw, and theres no wrong way to do it, so you keep doin you buddy and dont sweat the small stuff, just enjoy it! o/
I love the way you draw grass (and backgrounds in general). Do you draw each blade separately? Or is it a custom brush? Sorry if this was asked before.
Thank you!
I just draw each grass blade separately with a basic round or square brush.
I have similar symptoms to inattentive ADHD, but I haven't been diagnosed with it, so I can't say I actually have it. I feel nervous when I reblog ADHD posts because in the future I might find out the symptoms are from something else. I don't want to be called out for "lying" about having ADHD.
Imma just say thats how it be sometimes, no ones going to call you out, who has time for that. if you’re wrong, you’re wrong, Then its, oh well moving on with life time if that happens. Just reblog the post, tumblr cops aren’t gonna come get ya.
If you want to get more informed on self diagnosing yourself with adhd, congrats you get to be the billionth person i recommend this post by actuallyadhd about self diagnosis
its a good post.,.,,.
I still haven’t gotten the formal fancy piece of paper diagnosis either and yeah i relate to that feeling. I sometimes feel like someones going to call me out and say YOU CAN DO THAT!!! you need the membership card, you know, the fancy diagnosis paper!!!!
Dude, you are the most interesting person I've ever seen
I swear that I’m the least interesting person in my immediate family. For Instance:
My sister is raising a fruit bat and may or may not be dating the ace daughter of a UN Diplomat. We’re thrilled, and have invited her for thanksgiving.
My dad is a hobbyist but very, very good Document Recovery Specialist, and has been consulting with the FBI on something in Point Roberts, WA. We’ll have to wait until 2025 before he can tell us WHAT though.
My mother is one of the world’s only Botanical Scientific Illustrators that specializes in Algae. She’s consulting with several international preservation organizations to get their collections described, to the point where the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydeny AUS, is offering to pay her to fly over and help describe their collection.
Before about 5 minutes ago, I have never heard of AFRID/SED before. It relates so much to me it's like I wrote the definition myself. I thought I was just super picky and spoiled.
Same! I discovered the term about six months ago and it immediately clicked. I gained a lot of confidence finally having a name for my eating habits.
I've never been tested for ADHD, and I'm only about 65% sure that's what it is. One reason is because my mom figured I didn't have it growing up because my brother showed more signs than me, being more hyper and talkative. I also remember in 2nd grade when my teacher talked to my parents about me possibly having it, but they got super mad because they thought she didn't want to do her job. It caused me to be home schooled for 2 years.
Have a look at our self-diagnosis post. That process will help you figure it out.
Is it ADHD if you have no sense if time passing? Like there will be times where I think it’s Tuesday when it’s really Friday, or I’ve spent a solid 20 minutes putting my hair up in a simple ponytail because I kept picking out dandruff. Or a past event could be a couple weeks ago but it feels like months have passed.
This is a very common issue with ADHD. I have a horrible sense of time.
I just recently realized how little self control I have. My mom could’ve bought a new thing of cookies, and I’d tell myself I’d only eat like 7. After finishing, there ends up being ¾ths of the cookies missing. Or I’d run out of coins in a game app and I wouldn’t think much before using actual money to get more.
Yeah, I have similar problems. It’s impulsivity and it’s really common with ADHD, no matter what type you have. I try to find ways to limit stuff, like I will only take four cookies out of the package and then put it away, or I have a rule that I don’t spend real money on games at all ever (though I do sometimes, but I go to the store and buy the cards for it).
I have a hard time following directions correctly unless they’re shown visually. Recently, my dad and I were folding a deflated air mattress back up, but I didn’t understand which ends he wanted me to fold and how he wanted them to be folded, so I kept messing up while he got angry at me. I also might misunderstand what written directions are asking from me no matter how many times I re-read them.
This could mean that you’re a kinesthetic learner more than a visual learner. It’s been shown that when you watch someone do something, it helps form the same connections as you do when you actually do it.
I draw a lot in class. I love art, so it’s normal for me to do it, but whenever I listen to the teacher talking, I usually only look at them for like 3 minutes tops before going back to my drawing. I still try to listen while doing it, but it’s hard for me not to draw when expected to focus on only one thing.
Drawing may be a good focus tool for you. The act of drawing may be helping you listen to the teacher’s lecture. I have a friend who used her love of drawing to great effect in school; instead of writing normal notes, she free-associated and drew cartoons for her notes!
Sorry for all the asks at once. I just wanted to know if any of my experiences could be related to ADHD. I’ve been looking for answers.
No problem, I hope these responses help you out!

jazzy-mcdurf replied to your post “What’s the difference between negative and intrusive thoughts?”
I have a question. Can intrusive thoughts present themselves as images? Whenever I'm in a dark or scary place, my mind forces images of dark creatures attacking me. It causes a lot of panic, and if I try to stop them, they get worse. I don't know what they are, but I can't sleep without the lights on.
absolutely! images and mental “movies” are often forms of intrusive thoughts. just think of them like waking nightmares: scary as shit but not real
