Tomorrow is potentially a huge turning point for me.
I've been living financially very uncomfortably ever since my car was totaled in a car accident in June of last year. Following the accident, I had no choice but to use all of my bank savings to get another car.
Since then, I've been experiencing the definition of living paycheck to paycheck, just hoping I'd make enough to pay for the next month's bills. I've had to sell a lot of my personal belongings and sell some of what were supposed to be long-term stock investments just to pay my rent. I've also been making less money at work since I left my old job (story for another time) since July. It's been rough to say the least.
I sustained a permanent neck injury from the accident (again, details for another time). Thankfully my chiropractor I was seeing after the accident offered me some assistance via his professional connections. He recommended an attorney familiar with situations like mine to me, so I got in contact with her and she was able to win a legal case for me against the driver who hit me (the driver's insurance company, to be exact).
One and a half years later, the settlement check is finally ready for me to pick up. I still don't know the exact amount I will be receiving, but I know a general range of what to expect and I know that regardless of the exact amount, it will provide significant relief from my current financial situation.
This will also officially end this chapter of complications/obligations stemming from the accident. The permanent injury I sustained will always be there, unfortunately, but at least I'll be done having to speak with "professionals" whether it be legal or doctor related. The doctors had done all they could for me, and now my attorney is completing her work for me as well. I can finally move on and just focus on my life again.
Tomorrow I pick up my check. I almost can't believe this day has come.
Here's to moving on.
