Garu, cycling through so many emotions, hands his phone over to Ching playing the voicemail in the process. Abyo called him instead of Ching and... well... that’s one mental image he’d NEVER get rid of. Especially after being inadvertently called a naughty girl.  He’s shaking his head vigorously in hope that the information he was just privy too would slip out along with the rest of his soul.

                    she rolls her eyes, but there’s a smile on her lips. ching’s ankle is grasped firmly in her hand, and from this angle she looks kind of funny. her braids are upside down and her shirt is sliding up her stomach and won jr is FLAPPING her wings in a way that says she’s very annoyed. pucca tries not to laugh, but the hole is over ten feet deep and while the drop wouldn’t KILL anyone, it still wouldn’t feel very good. easily, as if she’s carrying no more than a bag of flour, pucca lifts ching from the booby trap. tobe is, as ever, a mild annoyance. how many traps did he set around garu’s house, hoping that he would, one day, fall into them? 

                    she should have been paying attention, but piles of leaves aren’t rare to find in a forest. 

                    “as if,” pucca says, voice soft enough to be carried away in the wind.

                    she is armed with a brush and heated curlers, but she’s still pretending to be busy  ---  pretending that she’s picking hair out of her brush, as if she’d ever leave it covered in the first place. its a way of giving ching privacy. she’s never been ALLOWED to touch ching’s braids. not after chen . . . after she left. there’s a connection there, as sure as the sky is blue. but pucca doesn’t ask. ching will tell her when she’s ready. if she’s never ready, then so be it. there’s a wound pucca isn’t willing to pick at. she’s not willing to do anything that will cause ching any pain. when she thinks enough time as passed, pucca waves her brush, a sign that she’s ready when ching is.

                    pucca rubs her eyes. it has to be three in the morning. weird that ching didn’t wake her up earlier. makes her wonder how long, exactly, ching’s been sitting in the dark, daydreaming about the hero of a country neither of them have ever visited. “ do you want me to introduce you? ” granted, she’s never MET him, but that’s something that can be fixed. she could probably knock it out in a week or two. pucca yawns.

do you know how hard it was to talk about headcanons we hadn’t already discussed

pucca always asks ching what she wants to do whenever they’re hanging out, and pucca is more than thrilled to do whatever she wants. ching will often do the same for pucca, but pucca never really cares what they do so long as they do it together. to the outside world, it seems like ching is following pucca, just because when they get into hi-jinx, pucca is the one leading or protecting, but most of the time pucca happily follows ching around to do whatever. 

the uncles and chang designed that treehouse in man of the tree house. chang already had the plans put together just in case because he gets really, really bored. the four worked together cause they knew exactly what their girls would like. ching and pucca did build it, but when they saw the blue prints that their parents had put together, they cried like babies. 

( they’re a little bitter that the boys ruined it, but they still have the blueprints, so they’re not too mad )

ching won’t let pucca touch her braids. ever. pucca knows it has something to do with her mother, but and so she doesn’t complain. but even when pucca’s going to do ching’s hair, ching has to undo the braids herself before pucca can start washing and styling.

pucca doesn’t find out that ching, abyo, and garu spend mother’s day together until they’re all around nineteen. abyo and garu think she doesn’t know. she knows. but pucca lets them have their time among themselves, and pretends she doesn’t know about it. ching doesn’t have to be told that pucca found out. she knows her best friend like the back of her hand.

                    there’s a pleased hum, a grin splitting her face. ching is right, of course. mitsuki’s a good boy, with a wonderful heart and an absolutely wicked sense of humor. she dared him once to scale a building with her. one thing led to another  ---  the details are BLURRY now  ---  and they climbed the nearest one, nearly ten stories high, without any safety equipment. it was the most fun pucca’s had in a while. they’d been breathless with laughter as they reached the top. she can’t imagine how a girl his age isn’t already head over heels for him. her eyes are glittering as she finishes putting together his school lunch. ching is taking him today  ---  takes him most days, seeing as pucca has to open the restaurant  ---  but she insists on feeding him. ching’s got a fragile stomach when it comes to animals anyway.
